Hey Ladies,

I have recently found out i am pregnant. The pregnancy is a happy surprise, but over a year ago i booked a cruise for me and my husband to go on in February. I am going to the doctors next week for my first visit and plan to ask them their opinion, but at this point i can't even cancel and get my money back.

I would love to go on the cruise to relax, but i guess i fear the chance of having an emergency at 8 weeks and being in a foreign country.

I am 26 and am in good health, and would assume i am at a pretty low risk to lose the baby.

ah the stress!!!

What can I do next?

I went on a cruise just after my 20 week ultrasound when we found out we were having twins. I too was nervous but the doctor said it was fine and gave me copies of all my records so should anything happen the cruise doctor would have my history. Enjoy!

I went on a cruise at about 4 months pregnant with twins at 38. I think you will be fine. Motion sickness was definitely a problem so ask your dr for something, just in case. The ship dr charged a fortune for a few pills. The wristbands that are supposed to help were a waste of money. Definitely be careful with the water and the food like others have mentioned.
Have a great time!!

Everything SHOULD be ok (other than nausea). The big problem is that if you do, G-d forbid, miscarry and you are bleeding and need a D&C, you need to make sure there is a hospital somewhere that can do that procedure.

When I was 9 weeks pregnant with my third pregnancy, I was supposed to go to Virginia on a golf trip with my husband and dad. My doctor said I could go only if I found a hospital within a 60 minute radius that could do a D&C b/c she was worried I'd bleed too heavily if I miscarried (I was on blood thinner). I called about 10 hospitals until I found one that did D&Cs. Couldn't believe it was so hard to find one. I wound up having bleeding while I was away, but it was very light. Ultimately, had to do a D&C back in NYC.
I think my doctor was very cautious only b/c of the fact that I was on blood thinner. Being on the boat will not harm the baby, so don't worry about that...

Don't be nervous at all. I went when I was 5 months pregnant and had a blast. I got to do all the excursions I wanted with no problems. Go have a good time no worries at all. The only thing my dr told me was don't drink the water see about taking bottle water with you or they may have it on the boat I don't really remember what I did.

I went on a cruise at 8 weeks pregnant! I was so worried something would happen as well, I remember crying I was so worried something would happen, but nothing did! I was bummed I couldn't drink but it saved $$ on the tab! Relax and think of it as a 'babymoon'
good luck!

You're pregnant, not sick! Obviously, you have to be a little more careful of what you eat and drink and stay out of hot tubs. But other then that, there is no reason you can't go. Go on the cruise and have a great time. With a baby on the way it may be a long time before you are able to do something like this again. LOL

Go and have fun! There will be a doctor on board. Just be careful what you eat, especially if it is a buffet (make sure the foods are at the right temps) And, no sushi and limit the fish. If you are having morning sickness, the motion of the ocean may make it worse. Talk to your doc about motion sickness and see if you will be able to take anything for it if it does happen.

Congratulations and have fun!

You should be absolutely fine, but check with your doctor. Cruise ships have doctors on board, so you may want to ask for a copy of your prenatal record (albeit short) and have your basic "facts" attached to your insurance card- allergies, blood type any meds you may be on, etc.

I traveled quite a bit throughout my pregnancy to and from FL and my doctor wasn't concerned. My sister made sure that her OBGYN knew I was visiting just in case, but we spent most of the time relaxing in the sun and enjoying the quiet before the baby-storm!
