14Mo Old Gringing His Teeth

yeah i DO remember that!! my son who is now 2 1/2 and my daugter who is now 6 both did that. it seems for them it was a phase. but good greef it drove me NUTS! i thought that they were going to harm their teeth. but i did talk to my doctor about it and they told me that it ws normal. it did stop when my daughter was about 23 monthes and my son about age 2. i think that it is just one more thing that they can discover. don't worry i am sure he sill stop. sometimes when my son did that i would give him a teething ring to give him something else to do with his mouth. he took it sometimes but not much. but you never know maybe your son will like the idea.

Keep going to the dentist every six months. Usually there is no damage done by the grinding, but it just needs to be monitored. My son did it at night for a long time and it sounded just horrible, but he is fine and he stopped eventually. I was surprised that he had no damage. Your post says 14 old - is that 14 month old or year old? Either way, you can go to the dentist. My kids have a great pediatric dentist.

I posted the same thing for my then 10 month old daughter. From the responses I got, it is normal and won't hurt them. Some of the reasons he could be grinding his teeth are: he's teething, something is bothering him, he's tired, he's bored, he developed it as a habit. Because these are his baby teeth, it won't do any harm to let it go. Even if it is a habit, he'll outgrow it. My daughter will be 1 in two weeks. She's already stopped.
I hope that this helps ease your mind some.As for year ears, I really don't have any suggestions.

My son is also 14 months old and does the same exact thing. I think he it definitely has to do with teething. It must feel good to rub his gums together and therefore, grinds his teeth at the same time. I was told by a dentist to ignore it, if you pay attention to it, it will cause them to grind them even more.

My daughter did that too, and it drove me crazy. Our pediatrician told us that it was normal. But he also warned us to completely ignore it. He said that it would stop sooner if the child didn't get any feedback at all. So as hard as it was, when she did it we didn't look over at her or say anything at all, just ignored it. (which was hard) And it did go away. Good luck

S. no need to worry. one of my girls started grinding her teeth as soon as she got them. her twin sister started grinding her teeth NOW at two and a half years old. it is most annoying sound ever. with the first one i tried telling her not do gring her teeth (i am sure i sounded chinese to her cause she was so little) but she eventually stopped. this time around her sister understands and she smiles and continues grinding them
