Hello :) We are currently expecting our third child towards the end of September and now that we know it's a girl (yah!!) we have been working on picking a name. We have decided on Makenna Taylor (our last name starts with a B). Since we have decided not to share the name with friends and family in the hopes of eliminating any unwanted opinions, I thought that perhaps you all could give me some input and because you are a "third party" so to speak, I would really like your honesty as this will be her name for the rest of her life. First of all, do you like the name? Secondly, any other suggestions as to middle names? And lastly, what sort of characteristics come to mind when you read the name? (ex: sophisticated, boring, etc.) Thank you so much for your time!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I just want to thank all of you for your wonderfully positive responses! I, myself, love the name but I think I just needed a little reassurance as to what others would think of her when hearing or seeing her name due to the fact that I have never know anyone else with her name therefore I have no pre-conceived notions. Naming my children is a big decision for me and I appreciate all of you taking the time to help me in this matter :)

I love it! It's different without being too crazy. I could see it on a cute little girl with pig tails, but then I can also see it on a sophisticated successful woman...maybe an attorney or something! Good choice!

Hi K., I think that it's a very nice name. It can have some nicknames if you want and none of them would be bad. I see that your sons name is Tyler. Do you use middle names when the kids get it trouble? That could be confusing if you do, but I don't think that it would be enough to make me change a name that I liked. No characteristics come to mind for me, I would think that's a good thing, she can totally be her own person.

I like the name....it sounds good with your boy names too!

My husbands brother just had a baby with his wife in March and they named her that except spelled it McKenna. I like your spelling better.

If you like it, thats all that matters!

Great name. I think our thoughts of a name come from experiences with someone we know that has that name. I do like that all three have different names, so you won't confuse them when things get hectic.

You are pretty brave asking opinions on this topic! Like or dislike of names can be so different based on cultural and especially generational differences. The name you picked sounds really good phonetically, with a "B" last name, and is sophisticated enough that it will be appropriate when she is grown up. Not that it matters, but I think it has an upper East Coast preppie vibe. Not sure why, I just do. I always feel a little bad for grown ups with too, too cutesy names. On that note, you may want to consider what others will nickname your child. Somehow it always seems to happen. I named my daughter Emelia Katelyn, and we call her Emme Kate for short, but I know she will grow out of that eventually. Sometimes she uses Emelia now, she is 6. I thought it would be a good idea to pick the nickname as I didn't like my own when I was a kid, AT ALL. Now I use it quite often and I kind of like it. My name is R., and my nick name is Rocky. Good luck and congratulations on you pregancy!

Hi K.,

I really like the name Makenna, very cute. I also think Taylor sounds good with it. When I hear the name I think of a smart, very cute little girl. Goodluck to you with #3. I have 3 also and it keeps you busy; but its a lot of fun and well worth it.

Very pretty name. I don't have any preconceived idea with that name, just let your precious girl shine through!. Food for thought - 2 of my kids, one boy, one girl, have names that can be girl's &/or a boy's name, and sometimes it can get confusing when there are 2 people with the same name, different sexes(I'm thinking of Taylor, I know both girl and boy Taylors) in the same grade. I wouldn't change my children's names for anything, and your is a middle name, which doesn't come into play much in the everyday. I loved picking out names also, but when people asked me what I ws going to name them (I didn'tknow the sex) we just said we have to wait until the baby is born to see what name they should be.

I think the name Makenna is really unusual but very pretty. The name makes me think of a pretty, happy little girl. It seems like a nmae that would grow well with her though as she becomes a woman.
Good luck with the remainder of your pregnancy and congratulations.

Howdy K.,
Love the name Makenna! It is beautiful and different. Growing up with an usual name (at the time anyway) it was fun for me (unless trying to find the little trinkets with my name on it -- then I was sad). But truly, Makenna is nice and you don't have to worry if your child has a speech impediment (soft s, r or l)she will always be able to pronounce her own name correctly (think babwa wawlters). So well done you. Plus I like if she is really sporty she can go by Mak -- which is oh so hip. I also like Taylor for the middle name, it lends stability and structure to the name as a whole. The only other option would be go really girlie for the second name for a different kind of balance like Makenna Claire or Makenna Marie.

Just one opinion ... but I think you did well as is

Cheers and congrats!

I personally like the name. I think it's modern and beautiful. I am pregnant with our third daughter and I'm at a lost for girl names so we're looking for another name. We already a have Mikayla and Mercedes...Makenna would go well. LOL

So, in other words, I really like it!

Very cute name : o ) Of course what matters most is how you personally feel about it- I remember when we were picking out names, the one decided on just felt 'right.' It was like, 'oh yeah, that's definitely it.' I know it doesn't always happen that way. Our last baby is a boy, and his name is one that my husband had loved for years, and I happened to like it, too. So I am very happy that my husband gets to have his 'special boy name!'
We have a daughter named Taylor, so of course I like the name! And Makenna is totally adorable.
Just make sure you feel peace about the name. You want to feel definite, not just "I think I like it." Blessings to you and your family!

First of all, it does not matter what anyone else thinks. There will be people whom love, like, and hate it. You like it, that is what matters. After 5 kids, I have learned this and I grew thick skin when it came to the names. Secondly, I love Makenna. That was on our list, as well, and if #5 had been a girl, it would have been her middle name. We loved it because we honeymooned in Maui and went to Makena Beach. While there, we said, "What a great name for a girl!" The beach was beautiful and warm and sunny, so that is how I think of that name. It is a pretty name, it flows nicely, and yes, people think of Jane Seymour. She is beautiful and vibrant and well-liked. I cannot think of one negative with this name, but I am sure someone will. You love it, that is what counts. Best of luck, and enjoy her!
