Where Is a Pretty Beach in Texas?

South Padre Island is as good as it gets in Texas. You can hop on SWA or AA and get there pretty inexpensively. You fly in to Harlingen or Brownsville, so you have to rent a car and drive to the island. We went in June and the water and beach were the cleanest I've ever seen it in 25 years...

Well, it is not IN Texas, but Gulf Shores, Alabama is not that much farther from here than the Padre area, and it is beautiful! Very family friendly, too!

I have had fun at both Galveston & Port Aransas, but I would not describe either of them as "pretty" but we still had a lot of fun. If you go with the expectation that it is not going to be pretty but that even so you can enjoy being at the beach, that may help!

I agree with S. Padre. We took our 3 kids (4, 2 and 9 mo. at the time) for a week and loved it. It was very clean and family-friendly (we went in September after the summer crowd and were able to get a 1st floor condo on the beach) There is so much to do: dolphin cruise, turtle rescue, Port Isabel Lighthouse, the nature trails, etc. We drove down from McKinney and stayed one night each way in San Antonio so we could have 2 days at Sea World. I have family in Galveston and visit often. It is not a clean beach at all. The island also has lots of bad areas that I never saw in Padre. Have a great trip.
