What Was I Thinking!?

HI moms-
I have been asking my husband for the past 3 years to have another child. He has been pretty adament about not wanting any more, so last year I had a garage sale and got rid of all baby things. This April he said, Okay, I am ready, lets have that third! Well, my ovaries we so excited I got prego on the first shot. So, here I sit, 17 weeks pregnant, totally freaked!! I have 2 boys already, ages 8 and 5 and now I am going to have a little one! What was I thinking!!?? That's like starting all over!
I already have my life pretty well planned...parks, school, friends, Potty training, SLEEP....now by adding this baby it's gonna start all over. The nursing (which I do love), no sleeping, crying, diapers....OMG...I forgot how it all is so tiring and time consuming.
Don't get me wrong....I am super excited to add this little one to the mix...but am having momma anxiety! Has anyone else had their children with a 5 year gap or more? How did it work out? How did you go from relaxed with older kids to adding a new one? Just need some reassurance that it will all work out in the end!

Also...totally random here....I know it is August....but am wondering...when the holidays come around....can I drink EggNog?! Be really sad if I can't!

What can I do next?

Oh, L., you make me smile!!! You're hormones are completely out of whack, and that accounts for a lot of your anxiety here! Yes, you will have a big change to get used to, but this time you can be a quiet, laid back mom because your kids are bigger. Toting baby along to your older boys playdates and activities will be no problem for you. And your boys are old enough to be helpful and entertain themselves while you're giving your attention to baby. You'll have to be careful this one doesn't get too spoiled!!!

Enjoy every minute, and think about what caring and compassionate little men you will have as they grow up watching out for little brother or sister! And drink a little eggnog - after you have eaten a full plate of party food :)

Craigslist can be wonderful! There are a lot of things out there for free!

Also, go see your local church for baby items. You never know!

My boys are 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 and we will be having a girl in October. Same thing here,no baby things.......still and we only have 2 1/2 months to go.
Hubby too was not ready and now can not imagine going back to the baby stage. But we will be just fine, I hear it all comes back very fast. My boys are 23 months apart, so I do not even remember my oldest toddlerhood or my youngest babyhood:) Yours are older so it will be nice, they will be a great help . It will be just fine(that's what I keep telling myself:))

Ha..Be careful what you wish for..!!!

It is all going to be fine.. You could have all the egg nog you want, just
non alcoholic..Or a tiny bit with a little booze.. Hee, hee..

Ask all of your friends what they have you can borrow.. You know now what you really need and what you don't and you know brand new does not mean better.Just take this last baby as a special last time to have your very own infant and enjoy it as much as possible.. All the things that freaked you out the first 2 times, you will be a pro.. Allow your sons to see how much they can love their new baby and how to be little dads.. It will be good for them.. Have them help out with new baby.

Congratulations to all of you!

I don't have more than a 5 yr age gap , but I do have 3 kids and while pregnant with #3 I did have all those feelings of "how will I manage". It is normal but you will cope , you just do.

Those are the exact age differences of my children. My middle child started kindergarten days before I gave birth to my 3rd. He has by far been the easiest. Not sure if it more his temperament, my being more relaxed or what. In any case, I am so glad to have all 3. The older ones were a great a help when #3 came along. If I could do anything over again, I would have given more 1 on 1 time to my oldest after having my 3rd. I always assumed he was ok - he never asked for the extra time but I feel like I really missed out a bit on his tween years. All have done well though. Oldest is now 19, middle is 16 and youngest will be 11 this month. They are all good kids and I am thankful for all 3.

It's great! Just like with your two you will do just fine. I found out I was pregnant when my oldest was 11 and my baby was 9 years old, then a new baby joined our family. Not only did I think we were done, I was surprise to be pregnant after 9 years of not. My older two help out a lot with the baby who is not almost 4 years old. It's been a great experience for my husband and myself, as we had our older ones in our early 20's our last one in our early 30's, such a big change too. I think we enjoy it much more, you know what's to come, and instead of getting bent out of shape, enjoy every minute because you know it will not last too long.
Congratulations!

There is a four year gap between my middle child and my last. It was hard but I welcomed her of course. The time will pass quickly and you'll be glad to have had your 3rd. As for the eggnog, you can get it without the alcohol.

If I may interject...having one at 8 and 5 is NOT starting over...having a baby when you're kids are 18 and 15...now THATS starting over...lol

You are gonna be great. The kids will adjust. You will love this one just as much as the others. You will figure out how to get your kids to sporting events AND waddle through bleachers to cheer them on. And you will figure out how to maneuver a stroller around them too.

Most eggnogs these days aren't made with unpasturized eggs so if you buy one that's in the carton, I think you'll be ok...that and one without alcohol in it is also good. Cause well...you get the idea...

Congrats on the new addition. Sending good thoughts your way!

My kids are 6 years apart and I wouldn't have it any other way either, like others have said. I call my kids twins, born 6 year apart. My daughter was first and son second. As newborns, you could not have told them apart just by looking at their faces. They are not close, but they do get along pretty well. They are 20 and 14 now. My son it taller than my daughter, which he loves. LOL It was not planned that way,but I love it.

My kids are 6 1/2 years apart and I wouldn't have it any other way! My 9 year old is so good with her little sister! She's been a huge helper throughout the almost 3 years with her sister and I think it's so sweet! You'll be fine!
About the eggnog, I don't see why you can't drink it if there's no alcohol in it.

My 2 yr old is 9 yrs younger than my others. She was a total surprise, not trying or anything. But I would not change it for the world. Life is stressful of course. And yes we are back to not being able to do things because we have a little one but there are ways to work around it. It will all work out becasue you will be the same great mom to the new addition that you ae to the other 2, and they will get a chance to be great older brothers. Just be prepared for the 10 yr old to hate it when the 2 yr old wants all his stuff. :)

My 2 kids are 5y apart. I love it. During my maternity leave, I just had to make sure the oldest was to the bus stop and then I only had baby to worry about during the day. It was almost like being on vacation!

It will be fine. As for getting rid of everything, think of it this way, you would need a new carseat anyway, all of the cribs have been recalled in the last few years, AND... maybe this one will be a girl so you'll need new clothes anyway!!
