What's Your Best MP Tip?

i have to say, i learn from MP all the time! so i have to give a shout-out, but i can't remember who the mama was who made the suggestion!
several months ago someone posted a tip about getting one of those hollow-handled scrubbies, filling it with half dawn and half white vinegar, and keeping it in the tub so after each shower you can clean one wall. i really dislike cleaning tubs and showers, but one of the few areas of the house i'm really focused on keeping clean is the bathrooms, so i gave 'er a whirl, and it's terrific! my shower is always sparkling, so i've gone on and put ones in all the bathrooms. the only drawback is that i have to occasionally shower in bathrooms other than 'mine' so i can scrub 'em up while i'm in there.
since i'm a 'i hate housework' gal, any small things that make it easier are ace in my book. this little tip was the best thing i've found since flylady's 'never go to bed without cleaning your kitchen sink.' waking up to an uncluttered kitchen helps my cluttered brain get moving more easily.
so thanks, whomever that mama was!
what have you learned here lately?

ETA- whoo hoo!! THANK YOU, marie C!
ETAA- here's a link to the rather garishly colored one i got for the main bathroom, but i actually prefer the smaller (and cheaper!) one i found at a grocery store.

There's been a lot I've learned over the years here on MMP....

Is there one that sticks out? Yep..."don't like the bad apples ruin it for you" so I've not let the ones I consider bad apples here - ruin it for me.

MomK2K gave great recipes...and Rachel - before she threw in the towel - put together a GREAT recipe book!!

I learned that JillPMcLean 1's best friend's half-sister makes $77 hourly on the laptop.

Other than that, I like that when I need a quick and relatively reliable answer for something, I can get it here.

Well, I just learned today about keeping a hollowed out scrubby in my bathtubs and showers - thanks S.!!! I missed that post.

I finally hired a housecleaner for the first time in a couple of years, with one job and one job only - to clean 4 bathrooms and the kitchen. 2 are quite large. She couldn't complete the task. I hired a reputable local service, paid $30/hr, and after 4 hours I told her enough. Stop. Be done. And all she did was smear the dirt around. The kitchen was the worst. There is still grime, orange and black lines of mold in every shower.

Off to the cleaning section today!

Years ago, someone once suggested that if you take baby on a plane, to link all of their toys more or less together with plastic links (so if one falls down, you can pull it up without bending over, etc.).... LOVED that idea. We did that with our son when he was 9 months old on his first flight-- I'm sure it saved a lot of toys from hitting the floor.

I guess that isn't 'lately', but that's the one that really stands out in my memory.

I have learned, that I am NOT THE ONLY Mom/Woman/wife... that has gripes/problems/PMS moods/imperfect kids or Husband and not the only one who has bad days, because you all have them too!
LMAO!
And its not only me!

Phew.

And, hearing a tip like using Dawn and vinegar in a hollowed handled scrubbie... is like so COOL!
What a thrill of a tip.
But darn it, I am out of vinegar!

I haven't been here long enough to really get "best" tips.

I've had people tell me I handled a situation right.

Then I've had people respond to questions and tell me off. It's my own fault, really. I should have told people how I approached the subject. I didn't and they read into it.

I've had people totally misread my post and truly believe I needed something that I didn't.

What I like about this site is that there are so many different people here. All the little things add up, helped me out, deal with things without having to post about it.

There's a cookbook???!?!?! How do I get one of those?

I didn't see the scrubbie one. I think that would be a great idea for our home. I'll have to go to the Piggly Wiggly or Harris Teeter and find the scrubbie.

Thanks!

S.

I use an old scrunchy scrubber ball? and soap it up and wash the walls and then use my feet to do the bottom of the tub then rinse everything with the hand help shower head.

Putting Pledge or some other higher end furniture polish on the walls of the shower/tub will repel water and make it not hold on to soap scum and stuff.

Use a toilet bowl brush and some Comet to clean the tub. It's swish swish and rinse. Sanitized a bit and the brush will rinse out easily. Then hang it by using a bread tie onto the shower bar, the soap dish, or some other item that sticks out. It drains dry and stays where it won't be used otherwise accidentally.

Hee hee, I'll take credit for the shower scrubber... I saw it on a Pinterest post quite a while ago, and have tossed it out whenever anyone here asks for cleaning tips. ;) it's nice to know other people get use from it.

THe biggest thing I have learned is to be more confident in my parenting decisions. Before I had my dd, the only parenting style I knew was more of an authoritarian style... Child does what parent says, or gets punished. Mamapedia exposed me to different ideas, and allowed me to reevaluate what I thought I knew... And I am now more of a "gentle parenting" type. (My daughter still has consequences, but I take more time to understand her behavior and make the consequences a natural result of the behavior vs. a blanket punishment if spanking/time out.)

it also helped me out quite a bit when I was nursing her, as I have never known anyone who breastfed before. I never even considered nursing, and just planned on formula-feeding my child. While pregnant, I stumbled across this site. I saw posts about breastfeeding, which prompted me to look into it, and from there decided to give it a go. I learned a lot, and was able to make it to 16 months, in addition to exposing many of my family members/ friends to the idea. (Since then, 3 of my cousins have nursed babies, and about 6 friends, all who originally planned to use formula straight away.)

So pretty much, I have learned confidence in parenting. :)

I'm always learning new things on here. The best tips that come to mind are using those soap filled metal pads on the shower, running tang through the dishwasher (which I'm doing right now), and placing pvc piping in between the couch cushions and the slipcover to hold the slipcover in place. I'm sure there's more but those are just offhand. I know what you mean about going to bed with a clean kitchen, so refreshing in the morning!

Right now, I am fascinated with the idea of writing with dry erase markers on the mirrors. I love to write on walls and have been looking for the perfect board for our kitchen. In the middle of my frustration, I have found a little satisfaction in my bathroom. The mirror stretches from one end of the room to the other. I don't remember what the original post was about (just this week, I think), but one of the responses made mention of it, and I followed up with a PM asking, "REALLY???!!!!!" I went home and tried it that very evening. (Can you tell that I am still excited!)

I too was taken by that tip! I have been trying to find a hollow-handed scrubbie and have had no luck! I was looking for a hollow-handed squeegee. Anyway, the only thing I have found is the small, kitchen sink kind. Where oh where can I find a bigger one? I just finished renovating my shower and now have floor to ceiling white tile (what was I thinking, right?). Please send me in the right direction, S. T.!

And I think the Diva Cup suggestion has been one of my favorites...

Thanks, ladies!
