What Happened to the Coupons in the Sunday Paper?

A while back we bought a Sunday paper and expected the Coupons in there as usual. Got home, and no coupons. This past Sunday my hubby went to the store; thinking the last time must have been just a fluke, goes through the newspaper to be sure there are coupons in there before buying, and NOPE....no coupons. What happened? Has anyone else noticed this? Where do we get our coupons now?
Some of the online coupon companies advertise "Free Coupons", but in the small print, they are going to automatically subscribe you to their company, and charge you automatically through your cell phone. OH NO they're not! Good thing we read the small print.
So, daggum, the economy is in enough trouble, along with most of us having financial issues, and coupons are somewhat a savior helping us to save a little money. Now they're not going to supply those in our Sunday paper anylonger? I emailed our newspaper along with submitting my concern about this to our local news. May be someone mentioned this somewhere that they are taking away our coupons from our paper, and I missed it.
Are any of you noticing this too?

So What Happened?

To: The 3 M's: Those people who are selling those coupons on the net are probably the ones stealing them from the newspapers, cutting them out, and selling them.

I too think it's the Extreme Couponing thing going on. Geez....so many greedy people out there...and dishonest. oye....

JB: Thank you so much for taking the time to post the schedule! What a great help that is to all of us! You're awesome! :-D

They never have coupons on holidays.

I got the reminder from on of the many 'frugal' pages on Facebook.

Even my HUSBAND noticed they were missing. WOW!

I have worked for two newspapers. It's actually quite an operation to get all the inserts in before delivery.

It's my guess that with all they hysteria about extreme couponing, that people are helping themselves to the coupons. If someone will crawl into a dumpster to forage for coupons, they won't have any trouble taking clean ones and leaving the rest of the paper.
Specifically contact the circulation department of the paper you buy.
Hopefully there is a way to stop this happening.

Best wishes.

I can't believe I know this, but I did the coupon lady thing for awhile. YOu can get a list of which inserts are in the paper for a year in advance.

Relax - they don't do coupon inserts in a holiday weekend paper. Here is the schedule for the rest of the year, as published on Couponmom.com. July 3rd only had P&G coupons scheduled so if it's possible that "a few weeks ago" when you bought the Sunday paper was that weekend, that could have been what happened. I always check for schedule inserts before buying the paper. If it seems to really be a problem in your area, subscribe to your Sunday paper so that the coupons can be delivered to your door and no one can steal them

September
4 — No Inserts (Labor Day)
11 — Smart Source & Red Plum
18 — Smart Source & Red Plum
25 — Smart Source & Red Plum & Procter and Gamble

October
2 — (2) Smart Source & Red Plum
9 — Smart Source & Red Plum
16 — Smart Source & Red Plum & Procter and Gamble
23 — Smart Source & Red Plum
30 — Smart Source & Red Plum & Procter and Gamble

November
6 — Smart Source & Red Plum
13 — Smart Source & (2) Red Plum
20 — Smart Source
27 — Procter and Gamble

December
4 — Smart Source & Red Plum
11 — Smart Source & Red Plum

A lot of times, on holiday weekends, for some reason there will be no coupons in the paper...I am not sure why. I have also noticed that there are a lot LESS coupons in the coupons packets...more mail order stuff...I think with the way the economy is going that the companies have stopped offering as many coupons because their profit margins are down so far. And there are no online and digital coupons that you can load on your store plus card...so there is not as much "need" for coupons in the Sunday papers.

You won't get coupons on Holiday weekends although sometimes procter & gamble will be in there. I couldn't afford delivery to my house any more so I buy at the store and I always check for coupons before I buy the paper. It seems though lately that you have to buy 2 of something to save a $1 so I usually don't buy the paper any more. I mainly buy Store brand.
I don't understand anything about extreme couponing. It sounds like a lot of work that I don't have time for.

The extreme couponers are probably stealing them.

One mom in Denton TX, not far from here got arrested for it. Boy she saved a lot of $$, now she has court costs, legal fees and an attorney to pay for. Hmmm.... Wonder if it was worth it???

I have home delivery of the paper and they are in my paper. I don't use them, they're usually in my recycle bin. Guess recycle bins will be the next stop for the extreme couponers.

I am not an extreme couponer but I do love my coupons! There were coupons in my Sunday paper in Albuquerque and I also get coupons in the mail on Tuesdays. My best resource for coupons is www.coupondivas.com. They have links to 4 great couponing websites including coupons.com (you don't have to pay anything for this service!) Most manufacturers have coupons on their websites too! I have never used the sites where you pay for coupons and still manage to find plenty of good deals! Finally, one of my favorite recent finds is Target online coupons which can be stacked with manufacture coupons for really great savings! Good luck!

Were the regular fliers in there? Penneys--Wal-mart--Sears--K-mart???

I delivered papers about 10 yrs ago and the Sunday inserts came separate from the paper, I usually had the Sunday inserts by Wendesday. I would contact the newspaper and ask. If you don't get a satisfactory answer go online and contact customer service for the companies that usually have ads in the local paper, they pay for that to be delivered to every home every week. They will not like it if they are paying for a service and not getting it.--This is how newspapers make money. Advertising pays their bills, not just the ads that run in the paper next to the articles but the inserts also.

I have had this happen, and sometimes it's because people will take the inserts out of other papers than just the one they're buying. I always check now before I put it in my cart.

and J.B.- thanks for that schedule! I didn't know that they don't put the inserts in on holiday weekends.

My part of FLorida stopped putting them in the papers too. I call their office and i forget what their spill was, but they did say it was my area. Maybe certain areas just dont do them anymore. I bought papers from a couple places on Sunday thinking they forgot to put them in. I am very disappointed. I have had to start bidding on lots of them on ebay. Lots of sellers on there that are selling them already cut out.

This Sunday's paper did not include coupons. This happens a few times a year. I started having my newspaper home delivered because often times some of the coupons were missing when bought at stores. Usually the front page will have a logo on top right hand corners stating "$260 in coupons", that's one way to know if that paper is supposed to have coupons.

I just saw a little segment on the news the other day, about how people are stealing coupons. In fact, a lady not far from here got arrested for it. She had stolen thousands and thousands of them. It's sad!

This Sunday it wasn't a fluke or stolen, though. There were no inserts. There typically aren't on holiday weekends. I tend to find more of my coupons online and print them.

We have found that it all depends on where you buy your paper. We have ours delivered to our home and my parents buy them at a store. 9 times out of 10 the ones my parents buy at Circle K or Fry's etc. are missing ads AND coupons. The don't stuff them all the same. Your best bet it to have the Sunday paper delivered to your home. If you're a good coupon clipper you can easily cover the cost of delivery with the money you save. :) Good Luck.

I know that people steal coupons out of newspapers. We stopped buying at paper because we started getting the same coupons in the mail with are weekly grocery ads. Smartsource are the ones who put the coupons in our local paper. maybe you could contact the company that does it for your area and see if there is a way to get them directly in your mail box like we get.

I had this happen to when I bought the paper this past Sunday. What was strange to me was that I went to the Dollar Tree, I normally don't buy my paper there, but it's $.50 cheaper to get it there and there was a note on the stand that the papers were being sold at the register. So, I headed for the register, mind you there was no cashier visible, so I noticed the papers in a cart, so I went to grab one and was yelled at by the cashier not to do that! WTH? It's just a paper! I guess like a previous poster said, coupons must be getting stolen. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who didn't get her coupons this week. I thought that maybe since the paper is cheaper at the Dollar Tree is because they don't give coupons. Thank you for your post and giving a heads up:) I'm glad you read the small print. I cannot believe that you would get charged to your cell phone for coupons! That's ridiculous!

Thanks J.B.! I just asked my husband this morning, "did you pull the coupons out of the paper?" because I didn't find any. There also weren't any last weekend. And our paper is delivered, so I know the inserts weren't stolen....although I know it isn't impossible that one paper in a pile of them didn't get the inserts in them. But two weekends in a row? Not likely that a random thing like that would happen twice in a row.

So THANKS for that schedule! What a relief!

There are never coupons in the sunday paper if it is a holiday weekend. I didnt get any this past sunday but usually there is. It could be that maybe where ever you are buying them they are not putting all the ads in or removing them before selling them.

I have also noticed in the stores that the coupons are missing. The cover on our local paper says that the coupons are inside, so I know they've been stolen. I don't buy them, either. Where my husband works (a group home for developmentally disabled adults) they subscribe to the paper and recycle it every day. One of the residents knows we've got kids and he likes to send the coupons home with my husband for me instead of recycling them.

I also print the free online coupons from websites like coupons.com. I don't get charged anything and have never shared my cell information. If I like a product and/or brand, I also go to their website and subscribe to emails for offers and check periodically for coupons on their website. (Dr. Scholl's has one for gel inserts right now--$2 off--if you wear dress shoes!!)

There were no coupons this weekend due to Labor Day. If the last paper you got was around a holiday like fourth of July then there are usually not coupons. Also if you don't receive coupons and you feel you should have I believe you can call the paper and have them delivered. But I believe you have to call Monday morning.
