Hi!

I have a bottle of tea tree oil in my cabinet and I can't remember why I bought it! I must have seen something on a talk show about it. Can anyone tell me what to use it for? Thank you!

So What Happened?

Well, I still can't remember why I bought it, although I know it wasn't for lice! :) However, I now have some good uses for it, should the need ever arise! Thank you so much for your help. I knew I could count on you!

When my daughter was first born we used cloth diapers and cloth wipes. We were told to put the cloth wipes in a plastic container with 4 drops of tea tree oil, 4 drops of lavendar oil, and 1 cup of distilled water.

I use tree tea oil on a varied of things like bruises which I have one now. On toe nails it works better than the expense fungal treatment that you can get from the doctor and it is a great disinfectant for laundry and other house hold cleanings.

But do not mix it with bleach it will lose it's powerful disinfectant capablitibies.

Hi J.,

Tea Tree oil is wonderful for any cut, scrape, burn, bruise, and so much more. It is proven to be more healing, penetrating and soothing than aloe vera! It also has some disinfectant properties, so great for killing bacteria.

I actually work from home for a company that bases many of its products on tea tree oil because of its wonderful properties. Plus, it is a great all-natural way to heal...which I am all for!

So many of our products today have additives and preservatives in them that are more harmful for us than just leaving that cut/burn/scrape alone!

Let me know if you are interested in switching to a store that provides better safer, healthier, more eco-friendly and less expensive (I'm not kidding) products for your home...I'd love to tell you about it! ;) I've been shopping there for over 2 years and LOVE it.

Tea tree oil is great for lost of things. It has antibacterial properties so any scrapes or cuts. Also you can use it as a facial astringent diluted in some water. You can make a steam bath with it and cover your head with a towel and breathe it in to clear your sinuses and open your pores. I'm sure theres more, too.

I use it for many things -- and think Carrie has answered the questions with great information on those, but there is one more use I haven't seen mentioned yet. It's a delicate topic, but one worth mentioning.....yeast infections.

I don't get them often but, when I do, they seem to take forever to go away....that is, until I found out how well tea tree oil works! There is a recipe to dilute it to use as a wash (can't remember where I saw it now), but I prefer to buy it in a suppository form from our local health food store.

I kid you not -- that nasty problem that used to take a week or more to go away (OTC stuff just never worked for me) is now gone w/in 2-3 days! I will tell you that it does have a unique scent to it (nothing unpleasant) so I prefer to use them at night -- but it's totally worth the effects as far as I'm concerned. ;-)

I agree with several of the moms out here. Teatree oil is amazing. With children ages 8 and 10 I would suspect you bought it for lice control. If that wasn't it you can still make good use of it. Just put a little in their shampoo, conditioner or no more tangles type spray. It will repel lice.

Have you ever used those harsh lice shampoos like Rid? If you check the main ingredient it is the same one used in Wasp Spray only it is much stronger in the shampoo! Lice is becoming immune to those chemicals so if you use them you may be exposing your children to harsh harmful chemicals for nothing. I highly recomend teatree oil instead.

Lol. What *don't* you use tea tree oil for? It has many uses (which may be worth an internet search "tea tree oil uses" becuase I know there are many more than I can remember... BUT it is a deterrant to lice, kills scabies, is a great moisturizer, you can put it in warm water and soak your feet or hands to destroy nail fungus, and lots more I can't think of right now. :)

My husband has a problem with warts on his hands. I have him put a drop on them twice a day. If possible put a bandaid over top. This might take a while to reduce the wart, but he has had them cut off by the dr. in the past and they always come back.

I am actually curious to know what brand it is. I am an affiliate and customer of a company that produces over 200 products with tea tree oil in it. The products are safer and healthier for the family and not to mention the enviroment, because of them containing tea tree oil. I know of many, many uses for it which do include healing bruises, cuts, stretch marks, rashes and so many other uses and I was completely unaware of the power of the tea tree oil until I became a customer of this company. I would really love to know the manufacturer of the product that you have.

in addition to all the suggestions here which are great, I use it when I have a cold/stuffy sinuses. Just rub a little on the back of your neck and it'll help clear everything up. It -really- stinks, though, so be prepared to be smelly. (But revel in the fact you actually CAN smell at that point)

YOu can use Tea tree oil for about everything--it's a great antiseptic, deodorizor, and more. What I use it most for is in the laundry. It works wonders on my husbands greasy, oily work clothes, and it really takes the odor out of cloth diapers. I use about 10 drops in the main wash cycle--that's all! Check out the website http://www.melaleuca.com, almost all of the products on there are made with tea tree oil.

As I am not sure how long you have had the tea tree oil or where you have stored it (or what type of oil it is - as many oils are tainted)... I would strictly use it for cleaning. Tea Tree is a great anti bacterial and anti fungal oil. It has many many uses.

I use it in many oil blends in my practice, in my home in a diffuser and in cleaning. But as I mentioned, depending on your oil source (mine are purchased out of stated and "weather controlled" for purity), they have fillers that can be toxic to the body if applied to often to the skin. Not many realize this. Or, to be safe as you will be inhaling the vapor, you could just throw away and start fresh with a new bottle. (Oils DO expire.).

Hope this helps!

Hello J.,

I was told by the lady who cuts my hair, that it repels head lice. I was told to add some to my shampoo or buy some with it already in there.

That is all I know about it. Except it smells bad on its own.
