Well, I am biased, but I am a graduate of Lewisville ISD, came back to teach in Lewisville ISD, and my children attend Lewisville ISD.

I was pleased with my education, proud to teach, and very happy with the education my children are receiving in Lewiville ISD!

Well, it's no secret the better school districts are generally where the most money is...

I know Texas monthly had an article in their December issue for the best schools in Texas..

http://www.texasmonthly.com/2007-12-01/feature6.php

There is a website where you can go research this but I have it bookmarked... let me see if I can find it and I'll letcha know.

Here's another of the sites I have bookmarked.

http://www.psk12.com/rating/USindexphp/STATE_TX.html

.... this is the site I was initialy referring to
http://www.tea.state.tx.us/perfreport/aeis/index.html

This is The Texas Education Agency's Academic Excellence Indicator System. You can see everything from the ethnic statistics to the teacher qualifications on this... the site is a little difficult to navigate so it may take some time to wade through the information but it's all there! Excellent resource.

I think that where the money is, maybe where the better scores are but not necessarly where the better schools are. I think some schools have to work a lot harder because of the diversity of students who come through the doors. I work in and choose to bring my daughter to a Birdville school. In Birdville, there are high income and low income schools. The school where I work and my daughter attends is a Title I campus but I feel that she will receive a top-notch education here. Our other option was a private school which we loved but I believe that our daughter has greater opportunities in the public school setting, in particular at a Birdville school.
Also, I agree with the Mama that stated that individual principals make the greatest difference in what the schools are like.

I have done an incredible amount of research on different ISDs b/c we are planning to move in the (fairly) near future, and I wanted to make sure it was somewhere we felt comfortable sending our kids to a public school (we're doing private right now). From everything I could tell, Birdville, Lewisville, Grapevine/ Colleyville, and Higland Park (obviously) are all included in the best schools for the Dallas area. The only problem is-- my husband and I refuse to move out there. We live in the Fort Worth area now and would really like a little more space to live, instead of less. Aledo ISD is ranked 2nd in the Fort Worth area, just barely under Grapevine/ Colleyville. We've decided that, not only is it the ideal option for us, but Aledo ISD is the only option. We will move as soon as we find the perfect property or home in the AISD area.
Good luck searching!! It can be very tedious!!!

My husband and I moved to the area about a year ago and knew nothing about DFW when it came to schools. We only had the experience of visiting and being around the area from childhood. We used the website greatschools.com to help us find a school that was acceptable with us. All the schools listed were great, but were not avaliable for us to choose because of my husband's commute to work. We focused on Arlington, and live in an awesome area and my kiddos go to a great school. People camp out over night to transfer their kids to this school. They also have PE and art which is not availiable in most ISD"S in Texas, especially at the same time. They also offer advanced math and reading, which some schools will only keep children together regardles of what level they are on. I have heard that Mansfield is a pretty good district, but I have not really researched this extisviely.

We live in the Keller ISD. I think we get the best of both worlds without paying the neighboring Southlake taxes. We moved from the Bay Area in California nearly four years ago. My kids who just finished 2nd grade and kindergarten before we moved here were in a Catholic School. Public schools here are excellent. In Keller, academically we are pretty much equal to the more wealthy Southlake/Carroll ISD. Athletics Southlake is probably better (especially Football).

I have been very happy with LISD! LISD PTA's are wonderful!!But I think it is more about having a great principal than having a great ISD. Yes, Dr Roy (superintendent) does a lot for our kids, but it is my principals that I deal with on a daily basis. We have been looking to buy a bigger house for the last two years, but the thought of finding another school with a principal as great as mine is a scary thought.

My daughter has been in FWISD, AISD and LISD. I have been blown away with the progress she has made in Lewisville. She is a severe dyslexic and has struggled terrible since 5th grade when the work started getting tougher. Never once in Arligton or Ft. Worth did she make honor roll. The first six weeks of this year her report card was all A's and B's! Just my opinion, but I think LISD is awesome!
