Wardrobe Makeover

Hi mamas,

So I've been having a bit of a wardrobe crisis. My work style is pretty classic (ann taylor / BR) but my casual style is very, well...confused! I feel like I've tried on a bunch of different styles and looks over the years and now that I'm in my 30s, I would like to settle on a look and I'm not sure what I want it to be. Definitely feels like a "tweener" time. = /

So while the identity part of this piece is mine to work out, I would like an overhaul of my closet. Usually I do pretty well at our local, upscale consignment shops, but this will still cost a bit more than my husband will consider practical. What is the best way for me to get rid of my old clothes and hopefully make a little money off of them? I've donated to goodwill, tried consigning and tried craigslist with no luck.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I havent tried this, but it seems awesome, swapping clothes online for free, you post pics of what you have, and search for what you want... on FB

Do you have a local paper that lets you put ads in for a few dollars? Like we have one paper that'd cost $40, but another one that is more local that is like $5 for a few weeks. It may work out better. I look in classifieds all the time just because I'm curious on what's out there.

Try Avalon Exchange. There are several in the area. You take your clothes in (no appointment necessary) and they look through, take what they want and give you cash or store credit, depending on what you would prefer. If you don't find new items there, head to Ann Taylor Loft and ask an employee to help you pick out a new casual summer collection. Have fun! :)

Hi, Amy:
If you donate items to the thrift store, make sure they are not for profit and get a receipt for you donations. You can use it on your income tax returns.

Separate what you really like and don't like or don't ever wear.

Ask yourself what colors you like that looks good on you.

When you dress up for work, use the same style of dress but in a more casuual way.

For example: If you wear a dressy cloth looking jacket, blouse, skirt or pants, then in your casual dress, wear a casual cloth looking jacket, skirt or pants. You can wear the same type of blouse.

You can buy basic colors that you can mix and match like white and beige,
or the colors you prefer.

Hope this helps.
