My daughter went on antibotics about two-three weeks ago for vaginitis which is caused by bacteria. The doc said some people just get it..no explanation given. It went away with the meds but now her private looked reddish this morning when getting her dressed again. I put some destin on it just incase it's just irrated but the mother in me is freaking out thinking it is vagintis again. I am going to wait till tomarrow to see if it is just red or worse. No websites are really telling me what vaginits really is or what I could be doing to cause it coming back. Of course I feel it is my fault. She is bathed every other day and house is clean. Maybe there is something she could eat to cause this to stay away. Have any other mothers had their daughters go thru this?? Just confused what to do to make it stay away or what?? My daughter is three years old by the way. I'm thinking too maybe she got wiped in the wrong direction at daycare or home. I only bathe her in water and baking soda. Please help...

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for their help. I now put on neosporin and dr. smith's diaper cream on top of that when she is red down there. I use wipies instead of toliet paper. I also read in shape magazine...lol.. for women and I assume daughters to mix in one tablespoon baking soda in with water to get rid of bladder infections. Thanks again everyone..now on to my next problem with her..lol.

My daughter has also had vaginitis a few times. We use wipes, and non-perfumed/scented soap to help prevent it. When she does get red and sore my MD said to use A&D ointment, apply destin over top and then corn starch(To keep ointments in place) over top of that where red and this does help her.

my daughter is 3 also, we had our turn with vaginitis. the only thing you need to keep in mind is she is a little girl, and like big girls (us moms) they get just as sweaty or moist down there, causing yeast and other things. i don't feel you have anything to worry about. It may come back here and there, just as we might get a yeast infection for a few diff reasons. your right about the wiping thing. I often try and wipe my daughter with a wipe after using the bathroom to make sure we get her nice and clean. but also you may want to just give her quick bathes. often letting them soak can be part of it. not rinsing the soap away completely. Or just a new soap period. My dr suggested not letting her sit in a tub of water instead just let the water run not stopping the drain to fill, and just quickly get her in and out. this is nothing out of the norm.

My daughter nor I can't take a bath or we will get it. When she was little she started showers. We also made sure she never wore a wet bathing suit. Of course, no great smelling bath salts or bubbles.

She is 14 now and she realizes the importance of 'airing out" and she will do this as well.

One thing we have done that has made a MAJOR difference is we each drink a small bottle of DanActive daily. It is a probiotic and the difference is amazing. I buy it by the case at Costco...24 bottles are less than $12. I buy a case for her and a case for me. This has been a miracle drink at our house.

Good luck

Vaginitis can be prevented if you can up the "good bacteria" in your little girls system. A good prebiotic will foster the growth of the good stuff helping to prevent the bad stuff. Probiotics are the good bacteria. Here is a vitamin with prebiotic in it. This may stave off future bouts. http://www.shaklee.net/healinghappens/product/20057
If she will eat some yogurt that will help further.
I truly think this could help.
