Tubes in Ears - Buffalo, MO

All three of mine have had tubes. My sons have gotten clogged before, but for him, once they got them cleaned out we never had anymore problems. His clogged once when he had severe congestion and the other time after having his tonsils removed. They did the same treatment~drops and then a followup. I know one time they had to go in on my sons ear and clean it out with this scary looking tool, but it did the trick. I think you'll be fine for the trip. Have fun!

My little guy also had tubes put in about 5 months ago. He was about 1 1/2yrs. old. Just last month, he was waking up every night screaming uncontrollably. He never really touched his ears though. After a couple of days of no sleep, we called the ENT nurse and scheduled an appointment just to check things over. The pour guys ears were clogged!:( We had been doing quite a bit of swimming, so he could have had swimmers' ear which clogged them a few days later. He was put on drops and antibiotics as well. But his ENT Dr. manually unclogged the most of it, which was a little tough on my son but effective. I thought just the same as you as far as the effectiveness of the tubes. But it makes sense that there is now foreign object in the canal, so there's potential for clogging. I guess we just have the rare children that actually clog the device that's supposed to be the "unclogger"!

I am sure your are nervous but we went through this too and it ended up being the blood and mucous residue from the surgery clogging the tubes. Keep on the drops faithfully and it should all clear up. We went back twice and it seemed to work.

Been ther done that. Our son, now 18, had to have 3 sets of tubes because the first 2 clogged up. What we found was that when he got an ear infection his mucus was so thick it would clog the tube. And there is really no way to tell unless your doc does a tempanogram.
Surely after all these years they have to have a better way to keep them open.

If I can offer a suggestion as well. If you haven't already, watch his symptoms an look for environmental allergies. When I was so frustrated at why we had to go through all this we switched docs a couple of times. I finally found a pediatrician, now retired, who suggested allergies. Once we got his allergies under control it was amazing! And now even after all these years I realize too that some of it could have been food allergies.

We had that with our daughter. My husband took her to the ER and when the doctor checked her ear he must have pushed on it and there was a ton of drainage but she felt better immediately.

When her ears would get infected I would push on the back of her ear and it would usually put enough pressure to unclog the tube. It didn't seem to bother her too much.

My name is K. and well I had 3 boys, however, they
are all grown up now. But my oldest and youngest had
several sets of tubes. To this day the youngest one
expecially has to clean his ears almost daily.
The oldest one had 5 set of tubes and the youngest one
had 7 set of tubes. They would also get their ears
cleaned out at the ENT Doc's office often. They just seem
to have had alot of wax. But they are fine now. They just
have to clean their own ears often. Especially my youngest.
