Is anyone else annoyed that there is a set schedule for Tick or Treating? My local area says that there is NO trick or treating today and that Saturday was when we should have gone. Trick or Treating, 2 days before Halloween??
Doesn't seem right.
So my question is this,

1. Do you like these schedules or not?
2. In your town, do you notice people still trick or treating when it isnt "scheduled"

What can I do next?

I am not annoyed that there is a scheduled time for trick or treating but I would get kind of annoyed if I had kids knocking on my door if they came at a time it wasn't scheduled.

I have never heard of that and I have no idea how they could enforce it. They can 'suggest' it, but what if you didn't hear about this and go out anyway. That's stupid.

I wish they had done it on Saturday here. Monday night is just too busy and with school/work the next day...but it is what it is. We'll go out around 6 tonight and be home no later than 8...I doubt we'll be out that long becaue it's COLD!!!

The kids in my area are actually off school tomorrow due to Halloween being tonight. I was looking forward to a quiet Monday night as opposed to Fri and Sat night Halloweens, but NOOOO, they had to give the kids tomorrow off so they can stay out late tonight. Ridiculous.
If you moved into one of those housing tracts that has RULES, I guess you signed them and are screwed for tonight. Talk to your neighbors with kids and see what they are going to do. You wont have anyone knocking on your door it seems, so you can always go to another neighborhood to let your kids trick-or-treat.

I actually liked it that way since Halloween was on a Monday this year. We had trick-or-treating on Saturday as well, so I didn't feel so bad about my boys being up a little later and all sugared-up! (with it not being a school night)

My sister had trick-or-treating on Sunday. I know, it sounds so crazy to have it all different days and times. But having it on a weekend night was pretty nice.

No schedules around here that I know of. Some places did have festivals, etc over the weekend but tonight I expect to be hit with 150+ kids knocking on my door

they schedule trick or treat so people know when to turn on the lights and kids know when to go. it would really annoy me for kids to just show up at my door whenever they wanted and expect candy.

Were we go they always have it the Sunday before Halloween... we have made it our Halloween thing. Go to my in-laws, walk around trick-or-treating with one of them and then have pizza and cake for my now 17 yr olds birthday (which is Oct 27th).

I had never heard of this idea until this time of year last year...here on this site! I think it is a crazy notion and no way a city can enforce this! I think its insane if people go for it as well. What are they oging to do? Arrest you for TOT'ing? UGH.

If you choose to partake in a party or trunk or treat thing (another thing I had never heard of until this site..but did see some local signs for churches this year), those will likely be the weekend events. If you do not wish to hand out candy, or have your kids dress up and go out on the actual Halloween date, then don't. Shut your porch light off and tuck in with a quiet dinner and movie?

My child is now 17...so no TOT'ing....but I have 2 giant sized bags from Sam's Club of candy bars...all ready to go! I have been good and not opened them yet, so there are more for the kiddies! LOL

Have a fun Halloween!

I grew up in Florida. Halloween was ON Halloween.
But I now live in a city (maybe the whole state?...ahh I see you are north of me...) that schedules Trick or Treat.
Sometimes (though not this year) they move it to other days. When I first moved here this greatly annoyed me. Now I don't care too much.
They usually try and do it near the weekend so I am kinda surprised they left it on a Monday, truthfully.

I LOVE the fact that we have set hours, 6-8. And that people stick to it.
I would not want people coming to my door past 8. And it allows us to call it a night at a respectable hour and come inside and watch a movie.

I would not give candy out outside of the set time. No one has ever tried it either.

Maybe you could go to another town that is doing it tonight if you missed it. :)

Our city tried to change it one time from a Sunday to a different day and our town had a fit. They protested and all kinds of stuff. It's like saying Christmas is going to be on a weekend from now on instead of the 25th of December just to make someone feel better. It's on a certain day of the month, it's not negotiable. It is what it is...until people take a stand and say "NO THANK YOU" city officials will do what they do.

I do know of one town that is changing from today to Wednesday for some reason and once I heard the reason I understood completely. It made sense. I cannot remember what the deal is, maybe weather or natural disaster, but it was the best reason I could think of at the time.
