I recently purchased a treadmill because I would like to lose a few pounds. I would like to know if any of you have lost wieght using just a treadmill as you excercise method? Also if you have, I would like to know if that slimmed down you stomach area? I had all three of my children by c-section and have always had that big pooch in my stomach area and want to know if anyone has had success reducing their stomach fat by walking and running on a treadmill?

So What Happened?

So far, everyone has been very helpful to me. Thank you so much for all the advice and believe me I am going to use it because now that I have invested in my treadmill, I plan on making it work for me and all the advice on strengthening my core, I kind of expected that I would here something like that, but it helps to here it and the suggestions are great, I will look for the video that was suggested to me and I have turbo jam workouts that I started incorporating into my daily routines and that has some workouts with weights and ab workouts. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me. I appreciate it and I will appreciate anymore advice that comes along. The encouragement makes me want to stick to it even more.

Yes, I have lost a LOT of weight on my treadmill. Do it first thing every morning even when you don't feel like - you will be glad you did. Here is a great idea you should try, this is what helped me soooo much. Warm up for about 4 minutes (@ 2 mph) then do intervals of high and medium intensity for the next 30 minutes. As you get stronger and your endurance increases increase your speed. You HAVE to push yourself for your body to get stronger. After my warm up here is what I did:
2minutes at 3.5mph
1 minute at 6mph
and keep repeating this pattern,

I have lost weight using a treadmill and feel much more healthier. However I like to run so I ran on the treadmill and did the high incline, high intensity fat burn exercises. I did loose some belly pooch but it is still there somewhat (I am a naturally slim person for having 3 kids) but I don't think that you would loose a large poochy belly just from treadmill excercises. There are "treadmill excersise plans" that are supposed to be for targetting specific areas (like tummy) you could look into. I will tell you that once you get over the initial crappy feeling of starting a new excercise program and get into a regular routine and habit of using your treadmill you will feel better, have more energy and look for other ways to excersise as well. I started lifting tiny little weights while warming up and cooling down on my treadmill to help with my flappy wings. They are trimming up nicely. The bender ball method is a really great (intense so don't over do it the first time because it seems easy) core toning/fat trimming excersise to go with your cardio on the treadmill. I am out of habit of my usual excercising and really miss it so thanks for reminding me about how great it feels. I think I will start getting back into my routine this week.

I think the treadmill is good if you run...I don't think you'll get the results you want by just walking. I just had my third baby (she's 6mo) and I started running the day after I got clearance from dr. It was tough starting up and it was just a minute here and there but be consistent and you will gain the strength and endurance to run longer each time. Now I can run a full 4miles and I feel so good about it...I've also seen the weight melt off. Just like you, I've had 3 c-sections as well...flab from the surgery is a different workout, toning that is...I highly recommend a pilates dvd so you can work on your core (which is the tummy area)...this will help you build strength and tone the lower back and belly so your running will become easier as well. Weights are good too for strength training. You have work the whole body to see results everywhere...I wish it were easier but it takes alot of work. The beneftis are amazing though!

I bought my treadmill 6 years ago to get rid of extra weight us mommies seem to add on if we're not careful and let me tell you, it has been the greatest buy. Now I haven't ran constantly this whole six years because I get bored easily with working out so I always switch things up. Last year was a bad year for me, fitness wise, so since January I have gotten back to running on my treadmill and can already see my new pair of pants that I bought, for encouragement, that were too tight can almost fit me. I can finally close them, just waiting for them to be comfortable in the thigh area :) Since having the treadmill my daughter and my husband have used it as well so we have had to have repairs to it twice :). But worth it!! Good luck E.!!!

The treadmill is great for your legs, hips and thighs, but I don't know if it will specifically target a stomach pooch. Running is overall cardio, and will burn the stomach fat just like all the other fat - slowly, over tiime. But as for me, the legs, hips and thighs were the first to slim. Still working on the spare tire!

I just bought a treadmill for the same reason and have lost weight. If your treadmill has them, use the weight-loss programs that are programmed in! I feel great after doing those!

I don't have an answer to your specific question, however I have a good friend that was always slim. After having 3 kids, she had a pooch. She went to a plastic surgon and found out that her stomach muscles had been stretched so much that no amount of working out would have rid her pooch. I'm not saying this is your case, but I found this interesting. When she had her procedure, they actually had to "reattach" the stomach muscle!

You can walk and run on a treadmill as your cardio but you will not lose belly fat with this alone. You absolutely have to change your diet and take out the junk and also incorporate strength training ie weights 3-4 times a week. This will not only boost your metabolism so your body burns fat more efficiently but it'll make daily tasks easier(carrying children, groceries etc). Good luck to you!!!:)

Any exercise is better then none.. walking is great for Abs i.e, if you have no knee problems then it is recommended and also the best diet to get rid of our ab fat is stay off white bread,rice and sugar... you will see guaranteed results. Good luck....

I am a group fitness instructor and mom of 3. Sorry to tell you chica, you gotta do some sit ups if you want to lose the belly! But GOOD for you for getting started! Cardio from a treadmill will DEFINITELY help you to shed pounds, which will help slim your abdomen and lose inches from your belly. But for the tightening back of those muscles and loose skin, you must focus specifically on abdominal excercises. Also, running can be very h*** o* your low back. Stregthening your core will help prevent any back injuries. Just take it slow and be patient with your body and the results WILL come. You gotta stick with it though! Google something like "treadmill workouts". I used to teach a treadmill group fitness class and I got a lot of different routines that way. ONe day you may focus on hills, the next on sprints, etc. There will also be walking options.

For your abs, I would recommend a fantastic video. It's called "The Tracy Anderson Method: Post Pregnancy Workout". It's about 45 minutes long and over half of it is abs. She really focuses on pulling the pooch back in. You can get the video for about $30 on Amazon. WELL WORTH IT!! Take it slow, though. Some of the excercises are pretty advanced, so do the modifications she talks about so you don't injure your back. Gotta build the core strength first. Hope this helps and good luck!!
