Hi Mommas! I am not a serious or marathon runner, just trying to burn some calories! I am looking for a decent treadmill to jog on about 20 minutes a day. It doesn't need all the bells and whistles, I just want to get on, break a sweat and then get on with my day! I just want something that isn't a total piece of junk and will last for a few years. If any of you have something you like at home I would love to hear your feedback! I would like to spend in the 500-700 range but would go up to $1000.

I love my treadmill (true running is h*** o* your joints).
You can always walk at a fast pace on it w/hand weights.
I would either buy new at Target, Walmart or a gym manufacturer/provider. We have 2 in our area.
Don't buy one too cheap. Won't last long & I don't fee they are as safe.
Buy a heavy duty one!

Smooth is the best, and has the best motors and warranty. I have the entry level one, it is basic, but it has been going strong for 4 years. It cost about $799 with free delivery from smooth online.

You can find a good norditrac at sears on sale for 700 to 1000. Totally wait for a sale so you get a more expensive one for your money.
My work pays a percentage back to employees for execise equipment for purchases over 700 so the one I picked wasn't much mire than that & it's pretty nice.

I don't know if you're willing to look at ellipticals vs treadmills but I have a really good quality elliptical I'm trying to sell for $500 obo. I can give you more info if you're interested. From what I understand you burn more calories on an elliptical and it's easier on your joints.

I found a used LifeFitness on craigslist for $400 several years ago and use it regularly. It's a gym-quality machine that retails for over $2000. Check locally and see if anyone has a good quality used one. If you really want to buy new, NordicTrac is probably the best home brand. Stay away from whatever brand is sold at Sears, Wal-mart etc. (I think it's Proform or something like that). My parents have one and it's pretty rickety even when walking while mine is super-smooth even with a heavy runner on it.

Why not check Craig's List? Lot's of people are moving and downsizing, and want to unload them. I had to give mine away last year, and it was a state-of the-art treadmill!

Get a rowing machine. Takes less space, costs less, is less harsh on your joints, burns more calories and costs less. Very easy to learn to row!
