help! I am 3 weeks pregnant and I was just in a house that they were laquering cabinets and doing work. It was really smelly, but I only was there for two minuets maximum. I am so stressed, is this harmful to my baby at such a young state? I know I am overreacting, but I need some reasurance! Help!

What can I do next?

The stress you are dealing with over it is probably far worse than the tiny amount of time you spent in the room. Try to relax - I know...totally impossible right now - but I'm sure you are both fine. So many people drink or smoke or take meds before they find out they are pregnant and the babies are fine. Oh, I could tell you stories about my active imagination during pregnancy! My kids are all healthy and yours is too! :)

Relax. No way to do any harm in two minutes' exposure. :-)

Well, you don't want to make it a habit of sniffing fumes, but baby should be fine. Mention it to your OB and he will advise you.

I am sure your baby is fine. Smelling car fumes everyday is about the same.

I would just try to avoid that kind of thing from now on.

You will be fine. Talk to you doctor on the next visit but I did the same thing wth bleach and mentally freaked out. Praying for you to release your fears.

When I was last pregnant (4 years ago) there was a free service called the "Teratogen Registry." You can call them and ask them about any exposure and they have the resources to look it up and either put you at ease (most of the time) or let you know to go see a doc.

This was the number: (800) 532-3749

Good luck!

Don't worry you & the baby will be fine. All you can do is avoid situations like these. The baby is totally protected in the womb. To be honest the stress is worse for your baby then the fumes so just take a deep breathe and calm down that is the best thing you can do for your baby. Eat healthy, drink lots of water get sleep and stay calm!!!!

It's ok to over-react, you're a mom!

The amount of fumes you breathed shouldn't be enough to do anything. Generally it requires long term exposure to cause damage to the baby. You take in a higher volume of particulate toxic material just walking down the street for a half-hour breathing car exhaust!
