My 9 yr old son complains that his armpits are constantly itching and he scratches until its red. I make sure he washes them during baths but it dosen't help. I've even tried tinactin and that dosen't help either. What is causing that?
Please help....I don't know what else to do. I've tried baby powder too, no help. He dosen't use deodarant because he dosen't seem to need it right now. So we don't use anything on his pits and so I don't understand why its always so itchy. We've used the same detergent as always too, could it be that and he's suddenly now allergic to it? I don't get it. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Both my boys all of a sudden got rashes and itchiness, especially around their necks. It seemed to be a combination of dry skin and not rinsing off the body wash soap properly. Now I have them make sure that they wash off all the soap very well and I also have them use the Eucerin for Sensitive skin body lotion. It seems to work so far.

Are his shirts too small? Too big? Are the seams rubbing his armpits funny and irritating him?

It could be, or a different soap in the bath maybe?
Try wiping them with vinegar. If he has a bacterial growth of some sort, then vinegar should get rid of it.

My son has eczema, and his armpits are the prime location for an outbreak. His outbreaks usually occur when he has come into contact with something he's allergic to (such as soaps/detergents or even pollen). If this is really bothering him, I would probably let his doc take a look.

Victoria may be on to something, but her treatment could be good, too, if it happens to be a yeast infection. Especially in winter, we keep the "pits" insulated and any moisture that might build up in there could feed a yeast-type infection. You might check with your pediatrician if the vinegar doesn't help.

He could be starting to get hair, and those follicles are starting to itch. Have you tried hydrocortisone cream? Tinactin is for fungus, so I can understand it not working.
Otherwise, I would take him to the Dr.
