My mother was peeking over my shoulder today as I briefly typed a response on this site and wanted to know what this website was.
I told her I often checked it several times a day as I went about my housewife and mother stuff. It gives me a moment to touch base with other women, without having to stop for a long conversation with a friend on the phone or a lunch date.
My mom said in her day they did that over the laundry line in the backyard. You could see your neighbors hanging theirs out at the same time and you would chat over the fence about many of the same issues we all chat about.
So I just wanted to express my gratitude for this site and say thanks for being my "laundry line friends". The gift of receiving and sharing advice strengthens all of us in our most important role as "Mamas".
I agree as well. I check Mama Source daily for words of advice and ideas. Thanks ladies for all your help and wisdom.
What a fabulous memory...something from days of old that the next American generation will probably never know. The dryer took that socialization away. We have a house built in 1960 and I have purposefully left the laundry pole and hooks on the side of the house because of the historical aspect. The children don't know what's it for and I did not know that woman talked to each other while hanging laundry. Social history lost....

What a great analogy! I do wish for the human aspect of the real laundry line sometimes, but this works too.
