My nine-month old daughter is teething and it seems she doesn't want to eat solids. She has only gained 3 oz. in the past 3 months and her doctor doesn't seemed worried...Has anyone else had this happen before?

What can I do next?

If your ped isn't too concerned, then you shouldn't be either. Teething can be incredibly painful, especially the first ones to break through. My daughter pretty much refused to eat for several days when hers first broke through. However, as a mom, I understand your worries about not eating, even though the primary source of nutrition right now is via breast milk/formula. Try and offer her soft foods and try them cold/chilled as they may feel good on her gums (mine loved semi-frozen applesauce).

If you still have nagging doubts, then by all means, find a second opinion. Good luck and hang in there.

Make sure the aversion to eating IS due to teething. Perhaps something else? If she is growing fine, and her growth percentiles are normal, and her developments marks are on par... then, perhaps that is why the doctor is not worried. Perhaps get a second opinion also. Sometimes, after 6 months old, their weight gain can decrease since they are more mobile, walking and more active. This is what Ive been told by my Ped. It does happens that when a baby is teething, it's not comfortable to chew. Has your Ped suggested Pediasure? Its a supplemental drink, like a meal replacement, for babies. Is your girl also drinking enough fluids??? This is important. Her intake. I'm not sure is gaining 3 oz. in 3 months is normal or not, but your Doctor is not concerned. If you are still worried, get a second opinion. Good luck..

It's my understanding that this is normal. My 10 mth old is teething to and didn't want solids for the first day. She's been in pain for 3 days now. What I did to get her to eat something is switched back to her "beginner" spoon because it's much smaller. I also have been feeding her from the side of the spoon (kind of dumping the food in her mouth). It has seemed to work. Hope that helps

Oh my gosh...I'm glad that I'm not the only one that this is happening to. My daughter is going to be 7 months next week and for the past week she wont eat any solids either. I can't even put my finger in her mouth to see if there is a tooth coming in. I spent 5 days trying to get her to eat and she won't open her mouth at all. It ends up getting up her nose and all over her face. I can't even give her Tylenol. Shes sees it coming and locks her mouth tight. I called the doctor and they said to give her a couple days off and start fresh next week. I was only assuming that it was from teething because she pulls on her ears when shes drinking a bottle. If she doesnt eat next week I'm going to try to give her fresh fruit mashed up.

If you get any other tips, can you please let me know?

Thanks
