Need help ladies! I have been looking for programs to get my teaching certification. I heard TexasTeachers.org is a good place- true? I'm not sure what grade level or subject but leaning towards 1st-3rd grade. I have my BA in Psychology. I love working with people and need to get back to work ASAP! Also, I hear it's hard to get a teaching position right now. Is it because there is a lot of people wanting to be teachers? Advice please! Thanks!

What can I do next?

I am currently in the TEACH program at LETU. Its a fast paced program to get you certified with out a BA. They do have a program called PACT for people that have their BA already that can get you certified in as littler as six months to a year depending on what transfers to the college. You can also do all your classes online. Check out www.letu.edu for more information.

If you have questions about obtaining your certificate this site is your best bet. http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/certinfo/becometea...

I moved to TX with an out of state teaching certificate and this site has answered all of my questions about the requirements.

Check the websites of the school districts that you are interested in. I know that our district (Conroe ISD) always has positions posted.

Good luck,
K.

I taught high school in Texas for 3 years without a certification...they couldn't find a certified teacher with my knowledge, it was a magnet school. I have a MS is Environmental Design.

After deciding I love teaching I got my certification through "I Teach Texas" their website is http://www.iteachtexas.com/

All the course work was online and then they sent someone to observe me teach and then I took the EXIT exam and then the test for my subject matter. It might have been a bit different sens I was already teaching, but they were great to work with and I could do the classes at night and weekends at my own pace.

You can IM me if you have any questions.

I just graduated in December and yes, it is HARD to get a job right now! At least in Kansas it is! I do know that some schools don't like hiring people who go through the quick programs because they are afraid of the quality they may get. The reason it is so hard is not because a lot of people are wanting to be teachers, but because of all of the major budget cuts. Jobs are being slashed left and right (once again, at least this is the situation in KS). When there were not enough teachers, a lot of people went to school to become teachers. Well, four years later when they are done with school and ready to be a great teacher, we are in a crisis. So it's a never ending cycle. Just my two cents, not much help, sorry!

The city of Allen is in need of teachers. I know that they are opening up a new elementary school, and due to the rapid growth in the area they are in constant need of teachers!!! My husband (who is in the mortgage industry) is constantly getting calls from the administrative office here about positions available (His former teacher works there and for some reason thinks he should give teaching a try even though he keeps telling her we enjoy his current salary too much!) So you might want to check out Allen ISD. I am not sure where to get a certification, but contact the administration department and see what they recommend. Good luck! :-)

Look through your local community college. There will be plenty of information about alternative certification. If you don't see what you are looking for, then go in and talk to them. It is unlikely that you will get back to work "asap" if you are looking to be certified. The emergency certification is in "high needs" areas. I.e. Math, science, special ed.
