My 12 month old just swolled a small rock. I told hubby to watch for any discomfort that may occur. Do we need to go to the doc? I hope this just passes. Grr if it weren't for bad news today I wouldn't be getting any news.

What can I do next?

How big was this small rock. The size of a green pea, an olive, a cherry tomato, golf ball...?
My daughter swallowed a pair of dice when she was about that age. I had no idea she had until I found them in her diaper.

If he's having trouble breathing, swallowing, having excessive drool, or is acting like he's not well, absolutely take him in. If he's acting fine, I would give it a couple of days to see if it'll pass. If it hasn't by day 2 or 3, take him in to have him checked.

My younger son ate pea gravel every time I looked away. It all comes out in the end.

Meh, me personally, I'd just call the pediatrician just to be sure, but I wouldn't do anything. My kids have eaten worse, and quite honestly, I probably have too ;)

Pea size .....He will pass it, he obviously didnt choke so he is ok... just watch his diaper. If you dont see anything in 2-3 days then call the peds.

Why not call the doctor's office to ask cor advice? The nurse can tell you if you need to be concerned about your little one swallowing a rock. They can advise you the best.

Hope you and your child feel better soon!

Do you have access to an advice nurse, who you can call and consult with on the phone? If so, I recommend calling. She'll tell you pretty quickly whether you need to go in or not, and if so how quickly he needs to be seen.

When we thought my son did this we took him to the dr and they said if it passes, great, if not, there could be a chance it got stuck somewhere, including his lungs. If that were to happen he coupld develop pneumonia several times. They did x-rays to look for it. They did not find anything, and he actually never swallowed the rock...(we were nervous parents.) But I never knew it could end up in the lungs! That was the scariest part!
So you may want to call the dr and see if they would like to see your little one in the office.

You mean he swallowed a rock? You need to check his bowel movements for the rocks for the next couple of days to make sure that it passes. I think it's 24-48 hours until you find the rock. But you have to call your doctor to find out how long before it "should" pass and if it doesn't when he would want you to get it X-rayed to see where it is. You should be able to let him eat and sleep at usual although I would give him foods that would make him poop more easily.
