Ok you creative moms out there, I need your input. I am flying out to MD to surprise my BFF for her 50th. They're having a dinner at a sibling's home. My question for you is how do you think I should surprise her? I'll be flying in on April 1st. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to all the moms you gave me ideas. I called my BFF when I was just outside her sister's apt and wished her a Happy Easter and what was she doing, having for dinner. Save a place for me, hahaha. I'm having dinner with a friend, didn't want to be there, it was a obligatory thing. Had to go, kisses and well wishes. Hung up. Knocked on the door. Her sister answered, said " hay" and walked away. I walked in and said hi and went over the the table. Meanwhile my Bff was standing up with her hands to her mouth in a state of shock. I thought it was a bust until she started to cry. It was priceless.

Bring in her cake at the end of the meal! Or wait til everyone's eating dinner (prearrange the time) and when you ring the doorbell, they're all occupied--so they ask her to answer the door.

If you talk alot on the phone, I would call her and wish her a Happy Birthday and say how I wish I could be there while you are outside the house. Of course you will probably chat a minute and I would let her go. Then I would go up to the door and when her sibling answered it, I would plan for the sibling to tell her someone is at the door for her. Her curiousity already piqued, it would be a really awesome suprise for her to see that it is you at the door. Have fun!

my mom and I surprised a friend for her birthday once. We called when we were almost there and they took her out back to play a game where she had to be blindfolded and everyone stood around her in a circle, she was supposed to guess who it was by feeling their face-when she got to my mom, she couldn't figure out who it was and was getting frustrated, she was so funny that everyone laughed-she recognized my mom's laugh and tore off the blindfold to see if she was right, she was so excited! I am not sure if I explained it very well, but I thought it was a neat way to surprise someone.

I only told my brother that I was going to come and he picked us up from the airport.....

My dad was crying so hard when he saw me and his 6 month old grandchild, since he only knew him from pictures so far.....this was the best surprise ever !!!!)

One of my coworker's did something similar. She arrived at the restaurant before they did, then came to their table with her glass of wine. Fun and a surprise. :-)

yes, surprise her as long as your not putting any burden on her. Make sure you have a place to stay and your own car. It wouldn't be fair to come and say "SURPRISE!!! and in the next breath say "can I stay with you?"
Good luck!

Not sure but it seems like there's an April Fool's joke in there somewhere. Can you find out where she'll be and just show up or call her from outside of her house and start honking loudly. Complain over the phone that it's obnoxious, she should be able to put two and two together when it's louder over the phone. Long and short of it, I have no idea. Good luck. Have a great time!

I think this is a great idea. If you can get into her house while she is out and then surprise her in her own home, that would be fun. Add in something meaningful to your relationship - something you two have shared over the years - be sitting at her table drinking your favorite shared drink, scream for her to come upstairs and make sure your outfit looks ok (not sure how far back you two go). You could also pretend to be a florist and delivery flowers. Put on a hat and glasses and then when she goes to sign the form for the delivery, have the form be a picture of the two of you.
Have fun!

I loved how my MIL surprised me. She flew in and my husband picked her up from the airport. I was 8 months pregnant at the time and on half days at work. When I got home from work there was my favorite dinner in the oven and my MIL sitting on the couch. It was a huge surprise.

Since it's April first (April Fool's Day), you could call her from your cell phone at the airport and say that you'll be right over to help her celebrate her birthday, then say "April Fool's". Then get a rental car and drive over to the house (or take a taxi) and ring the doorbell. Make sure you tell her family members to make her answer the door, then shout "happy April Fool's Day and Happy Birthday" when she opens the door.
