My 21 mo ds has had a stye on his left upper eyelid for 1 month. I thought it would go away on its own but it has not. I tried warm compresses. I will call pedi in the morning. It doesnt seem to be bothering him. Any at home comfort measures? Thanks

So What Happened?

Ok, meant to say any at home remedies that may help (chuckle). I'd rather try that than have him on rounds of antibiotics. Ive had styes before and am fairly certain thats what it is. I am taking him to dr tomorrow.

Chuckle. If it's not bothering him what sort of comfort measures are you looking for?

A sty is usually gone sooner than a month and usually hurts. Good you're calling the doctor.

After your SWH: my mom rubbed a sty with her gold ring. I know some say that is just an old wives tale and does nothing however it did satisfy the urge to scratch it and our stys did go away in a week or so. She used really warm moist compresses to. The moist heat helped with the itching and pain.

How do you know it is a "stye" or not?
It has been 1 month.

A stye, can be a bacterial infection and is usually a lump on the eye lid.
Or it can also be called pink eye when/if it affects the eye. Or also called conjunctivitis.
But to know for sure, you need a medical diagnosis.
Styes are seemingly not contagious or will self heal.

If you can, press a clean copper penny on it for a few seconds and do it a couple of times.

Take a tea bag and make a cup of tea . Use just a regular Lipton , no green or herbal or anything. Take out the tea bag and squeeze out water. let it cool a bit . Place on your wrist to test if is too hot before you place on his closed eye. hold on for about 20 seconds then dunk the tea bag back in the cup to warm again . Repeat a few more times . If it is a stye , this will work and it will be gone in the morning .

There is an OTC stye medication that helps with the itching. My GD has had a stye for almost 2 months. She is on her THIRD round of anti-biotics and it's still there!

They can require surgery. We had to see an ophthalmic plastic surgeon. Minimal scarring though her eyelashes are not as thick or long on that eye anymore.
