Hello Mamapedia,

I want to clear out my inbox on this site by weeding, so to speak, my flowers received in my inbox. I'm usually pretty application savvy but I can't seem to figure it out. Is there a way to do this and if so, can someone kindly school me??

thanks!!! S.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi Ladies.

Thanks for all the feedback. I tried both methods listed below and neither worked for me. The open in a new tab option was greyed out on my drop down menu.

I agree this is a minor thing and I will also own that it's a little OCD. I just thought I would throw it out there. Looks like I'm in excellent company.

Have a great day!!! S.

Jo W showed me how a few years back...

RIGHT CLICK on EACH flower, it will bring you a drop down menu. Open in new tab. You can open ALL of them in new tabs...close the tabs and VIOLA!! Inbox cleared!!

Have fun!!

ETA: Yes, if you go to the inbox and then click "Show" you get a choice of All, Messages, Friends etc. - but as soon as you move the cursor to select what you want, that box disappears. That's the glitch that they can't fix. That's the frustration - that this site doesn't work consistently.

I've asked Mamapedia twice for help on this. I'm with you - it's nice to get flowers, but I don't need to save them forever - I think I have 14,000 items in my inbox. One time the moderator told me it couldn't be done. A few weeks ago when one of the technical people (Doug, I think?) posted that the site would be down briefly, I commented about some of the annoying things. He wrote me a nice note asking what things make me (and others) crazy, and I told him that's one of them. I also mentioned the ads, the fact that no link to current questions appears in the Mamapedia Daily email (just the blog for the day), and the slowness of the uploading of posts (that's why you often see "updated" in someone's answer, and it's repeated 2, 3, 4 times). He said thanks for the info. I have no idea if anyone is working on this. You'd think it wouldn't be so hard.

ETA: The reason many of us want to clean them out is that it is impossible to go back and read your personal messages from people without sorting through 40 pages of old flowers. If someone messages me and then writes again in a week or 3 weeks, the only way I can check prior contact for content is to wade through pages and pages of flowers. Not to mention the frustration of not having a typical thread of back and forth contact as I do with traditional email. No way to know what you said back to someone. Grrr….for those of us who have regular contact with other members, it's an annoyance.

I have been on here since about 2007 and I don't even know how many I have. I have also looked for a way to clean the inbox but I think since they are attached to questions/answers they are there forever.

I do always appreciate them.

Someone please tell me why you all care if the flowers are deleted or not. They aren't taking up space on your computer. What difference does it make? Seriously, I am thoroughly confused.

Why? It isn't taking up storage on your computer. Unless, you're a little OCD :)

Seriously though, they are open & reply only. There is no way to delete them. Sorry...

I have more than 20K flowers. No way to delete them that I am aware of.

I can't even delete one. I like this site, but I HATE having years of flowers just stacked up. I wish there was a way to delete them. I certainly appreciate receiving flowers, but wish I could simply view them and delete them. It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to add that option to the site.

If you go to My Inbox in the upper right it says Show Only. It appears to be set to All...however if you use the drop box you are able to change it from All to Msgs, Flowers or Friend Requests. Diane B. by changing it from All you won't have to go thru all the flowers in order to see the messages you've sent/received. Speeds up the process a bit. But if there's a way to delete flowers, I'm not sure how to do it. It's never bothered me, I kinda like watching the # of flowers increase :)

hahaha I just realized that after reading all your responses, I added to the problem and sent several people Flowers for their responses to you. Ooops.

If you ever find out how, please let the rest of us know. You would think that all these millions of combined flowers were taking up some room on the main system(s) this site is ran on.

Perhaps if we got EVERYONE who wants to clean them up to send a msg. to a moderator, we'd get something done?? ;)

I've been on here forever and used to have tens of thousands. I hated it! There is no way to do all at once, you have to click on each one. And I did that! Every time I came on I just cleared a couple pages at a time and now I'm caught up. Good luck!

It would seem like a silly question...except there really is no way to do it. It also seems like it would be in the site's best interest to clean things up a bit...but what do I know.

Go to your inbox on a regular computer, not your phone. Using the mouse, quickly click on each of the flowers, going down the entire list. Clicking will unhighlight the hyperlink, unmarking that flower in your inbox when you refresh, and if you click on the next one before the page loads, it won't load. Eventually a page will load, but you can get through 8 or so before it does. That's what I usually do, unless I know the person and want to see which of my posts they like...then I'll go see it.

not that i know of.
i've got 67 flowers that i received before i knew what they were or how to check them, but they're buried waaaaaaaaay back, from years ago. it would be the work of days to click laboriously back to get rid of them.
they're not clogging up my computer, so it's no skin off my nose.
