Stress Incontinence?

I'm mortified to be asking this, but it happened recently. Has this happened to anyone else? I was out with friends and didn't even feel like I had to go to the bathroom. When it was time to leave, I got up and realized my pants were wet. I'm still mortified. If just one person tells me it has happened to them I will feel a little better about it. I'm calling the doctor this week.

What can I do next?

Have you heard of Kegel exercises? Especially after we give birth, it is vital to exercise the pelvic floor muscles to get them back into shape. This will really help you regain control - I had major issues when I laughed, coughed, etc after one of my kids was born...

NORMAL and VERY COMMON!!!!
The stress of 2 pregnancies on your pelvic floor muscles has caused them to be weak and clearly ineffectual. Simple solution--EXERCISE. You might have heard of Kegels before and now it's your turn. I recommend you check out Spabebe.com for classes for post labor classes. Julie Tupler is an EXPERT on getting your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles into shape, and all it takes is self-discipline.
I am a physical therapist soon to open a private practice and have been working with women's health issues with Clear Passage Therapies for a couple years (another good website to check out)so I know from whence I speak. You can take a class with Julie/Spa Bebe or just purchase a video if you are too pressed for time to get in to the Spa.

Calling the doctor is the right thing to do. I cannot sypothize but my mom can. She had it bad. Whenever she sneezed, laughed or coughed. She just had a partial-hysterectimy and while they were doing that, they put a 'sling' to hold up her bladder. I don't know much or I should say anything else, but I thought I'd put your mind at ease that you're not the only one out there. She's 50 and has 4 children, 32, 30 (me), 11 and 4. Good luck and remember this, all these thing that happen to us are normal. It's just that other people are too embarrassed to talk about it. You're actually helping others who are scared too.

PLease DO NOT feel bad,

ITS call OLD, Its a really horrible thing that happens to all women, ESPECIALLY those of use with more than one kid,

I could share several stories, but here are a few that will make your heart melt ( OK maybe not melt )

I have and 11 year old, and a 3 year old, and a 21 month old
PLUS a Dog and a HUBBY.

SAHM

11 year old was driving me crazy I yelled at him and PISSED my self

Was pregnant, with my 3 year old, got a bad cold and PISSED my self EVERYtime I coughed, It was so bad I had to put 2 towels on the bed and ONE between my legs.

One day i went for a parent teacher confrence, with ALL 5 of my oldest childs teachers, standing there infront of them
went to lift up my kid PISS PISS and more piss.
Talk about humiliation.

JUST 3 days ago, the work me who are fixing my bathrooms asked me to look at something, I bent down and PISSSSSSSS
I was so embarrassed, didn't know what to do so I waited sorta backing out, of the room while talking, and then when they turned their heads i ran,

Been check for Infections and all that stuff , and been told it is normal, and surgery is NOT recommended at this time.

PS i am 34 year old mother of 3

Don't feel bad , it happens

I have had this problem ever since I had my 2nd child, I have to wear panty liners all the time, sneezing, coughing, and passing gas almost garuntee a little accident. I have spoken with several other mom's who say they have the same problem. I have heard that doing kegal (spelled wrong) excersizes that you may have done during pregnancy can help.

You are deffinatly not the only woman who has had this problem.

Ah, I think this is happening to me now, too. I had been wearing a pantliner, but in the last 2 weeks...uugghh.
But what I did do so far, and seems to be working some, is the doing the Kegel exercise. I used to do them years ago, and stopped, but I am doing them now and things seem better. I am waiting a bit before going to the doctor as I am extremely busy with a project at work, and it is giving me time to do more Kegels.
Have you heard of it? You go to the bathroom and while you are urinating, stop the flow and then start again. Remember how you did it, and at various times in the day, do 10-15 reps of this. It helps strengthen the muscles or something. Maybe this will help...I am hoping it continues to help me!! Or I will be at the doctor's office, soon, too!

As embarressing as it is, it comes with age and bearing children. After years of trying the Kegels, I went to a urologist to find that my bladder had dropped significantly. I had surgery last April and feel like a COMPLETELY different person. My life has changed. Sounds weird but only someone who knows what life is like with this problem can understand. Go to a dr and see what is recommended. Good luck!

Yoga calls it "moolabonda". Western medicine calls it Kegels.
Whatever you wanna call it, if you've ever had a baby, you've gotta do them forEVER!!! It's part of the ongoing battle we all face with gravity. Gravity isn't going away anytime soon!
Easy time to do it is on the potty.
Also try it when at a red light or when the phone rings ( no one will know)

This is perfectly normal...you can JUMP ROPE or use a little trampoline to regain your strength in that area...it's the BEST & FASTEST way to do it! Good luck!

I found that the more I carried my daughter(she's now 4 1/2),it seemed as though I could barely make it to the bathroom to urinate. Barely a warning! I stopped carrying her around so much and the problem lessened. Just recently it has occured again and I realize I have been carrying my daughter/picking her up alot. Only connection I can make is that I am putting alot of stress on my pelvic floor muscles which have never been the same since a difficult labor/delivery. Kegels help a bit,not much for me unfortunately. If you lift/carry the kids, try holding off if possible and see if it helps! Good luck1 W.

Do your Kegel exercises! If that doesn't help, or if you can't quite get it, ask your gyno for a referral to a Physical Therapist who specializes in women's health. Good luck!

I had this happen recently but not quite as you described. I came down with a lousy cold virus that brought the worst cough I have had in about 15 years. That cough was so harsh that I swear it started in my toes! Needless to say, most times I coughed I wet my pants. It took me three days before I caved in and started wearing a panty liner...

I am 38 and have three kids, ages 7, 4 and 2. Carrying babies is great, huh? LOL...

Anyway, I am not sure if mine is permanent or not because I was fine until this happened. I'm willing to bet it all goes downhill from here and I will be a candidate for that sling surgery. *sigh*

Good luck, and yeah, call the doc.

That has happened to me several times. I can't even make it to the bathroom often. Last week, I wet the bed....still can't go to the doctor...too embarrassed. I hope at least you feel better. I wonder if there is medication for this? I have had trouble ever since my second child.
