Stomach Issues - Bristow,VA

This is kind of an embarrassing issue...but I am reaching out to others that may be in my boat. Since college, I am not 28, I have had very temperamental bowels. At times it could have been 4-6 days without going. I began in 2000 trying to deal with it by using fiber supplements and eventually laxatives to relieve the wait.

Well after too long on and off laxatives, teas, and supplements I have made my already slow bowels probably worse. When I got pregnant I didn't touch anything and I found that I went here and there - I think the prenatals helped too. Since having my son, I found that I am back to square one and now am at a point where I realize my body's addiction to laxatives to produce results. Last week I finally came to my senses and I have quit taking anything altogether, starting watching what I eat, drinking water all day (something I didn't do enough of) and adding more fiber to my diet. It has been 6 days now since I have gone and I look as if I am 4 months pregnant. I know I am going to pay the price in terms of having to wait for my body to figure out what to do right now.

I do intend to call the doctor and set up an appt, possibly go to get a GI person to look into what if any issues I really have. But did or does anyone else suffer from this issue in terms of not going regularly and dealing with constant bloating and uncomfortable feeling?

What can I do next?

Water and soluble fiber are the way to go. In other words, green leafy vegetables and lots of water. Proper diet and exercise (which will stimulate your bowels) is far better than any supplements.

However, with your prolonged problems, you should have gone to a specialist long ago. They are going to want to check up on your bowel and intestines.

Yogurt (Kefir is better), simple vegetable soups (chick broth, pot & celery), black beans (a must!), and pinneapple. I bet you'll have a movement the next day!

I have had the same issue since I was in high school. Up until last week I was still taking fiber pills but when I was at the doctors last time (last week), she told me to try taking a magnesium 250mg pill each day b/c it is a natural laxative and she also told me to take flaxseed oil (that you can get at Walmart). I just started taking the magnesium and haven't noticed much of a change but I just started. One think that has helped me some is I eat 1 1/2 cups of Raisin bran each morning (which has a good amount of fiber). I'm still looking for suggestions too so I will have to keep checking back at your post.

Hi L., I have had issues similar for years and years, still do, when I travel, forget it, feel like you and look like I am pregnant, do need to take tea with me, I guy it from Unicity International, with senna, also their Lifefiber.
It saves me and is healthy. Been using it for 15 years.
Drink a lot of water, eat fruit, lay off red meat and pork.
Eat Oatmeal for breakfast. Funny as it is, if I go shopping for anything especially clothes, that is the best laxative, always, always need to find a bathroom. Must be anxiety :-))

It sounds like you may have IBS? After I had my first child I had constipation problems and the doc put me on Miralax temporarily. Supposivly it is not addictive and cannot cause your body to become dependent on it. I have not taken it for years and had no problems going off it. At the time that I took it you needed a prescription but I have seen commercials that it is over the counter now.

Best Wishes!
