Has anyone used these? Can you explain what these are exactly? I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth paying an annual $70 cc fee to get two one-way $208 Wanna Get Away Fares. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I would say you look at the cost of the tickets WITHOUT getting the credit card offer.

So, basically you are saying you would pay $486. for your round trip ticket ($208 + $208 + $70).

So, if you can get the tickets for LESS than $486 but MORE than $416 (the cost of the round trip without the credit card offer) you SHOULD NOT do the credit card offer.

If you can't get the tickets for less than $486, then get the card, use the tickets and just make sure you pay off the card and cancel it within one year so you are not charged a 2nd annual fee. If you have the card for a 2nd year, the cost of your tickets just jumped from $486 to $556).

Make Sense?

I would NEVER have a credit card with an annual fee, unless it was a SUPER low interest rate. Then you would need to calcuate how much you are generally charged in interest to determine which is the better deal. probably this southwest card is a high interest rate card (special offer cards usually are).

Oh - wait. You might be saying if you get the credit card you would then get 2 FREE tickets at the wanna get away price up to $208? Then...... that's different. Because you would be getting the tickets for free.

Again - it depends on your credit card usuage. if you are going to carry a balance on a high interest credit card with an annual fee you will more than double the cost you pay for the tickets in a small amount of time.... so, not worth it.
If you can get the card, get the free tickets, use the card and cancel within a year then it might be worth it. That's a lot of administrative hassle, though.

Good Luck and have fun on your trip.

The "Wanna Get Away" fare is their slogan for a non-refundable ticket that anyone can get. I wouldn't open a credit card just for 2 free one way tickets; however, during off-peak days and seasons, I find that the "wanna get away" fares, at least where I want to go, aren't ofer $208. If you plan on using the card to acquire reward points towards other flights it maybe worth it. Call the credit card company and see if they are willing to waive the annual fee.

wanna getaway fares are nontransferrable, nonrefundable little hops. i've known people that used them, but i wasnt aware of the annual fee. I've gone through the SW website and searched fares and was never asked to log-in or for my account #. Is it a club you belong to? It just asked me the price of the fare and taxes.

I can tell you O. thing--it's worth it for the credit card company or they wouldn't be offering it, right?! LOL
My gut feeling on this would be: not worth it.

I'm confused by the posts. Do you have to have a certain credit card to get the Wanna Get Away fare? As Victoria T. explains it you don't have to have a specific credit card. So why would you open a credit card with a $70 annual fee. If you need a credit card there are oodles that have no annual fee.

I book our business and personal travel all the time and get great Southwest deals without paying anything more than the roundtrip and taxes associated with the airfare.

I would not pay a fee to get something you can go online and book yourself at no fee.

I book my hubby's monthly Houston trip at least 21 days in advance and pay the web special and he flies roundtrip around $100.

I'd check into it further before signing up for annual fees... annual fees = no "free" tickets.
