I tried calling the orthopedic office, but my son's doctor is in surgery all day and won't get back to me until tmrw.
My son's cast is kind of rubbing his fat thigh red, and I'm not sure what to do. I know you're not supposed to stick anything down inside a cast, but do you think maybe putting some cottony something or other (I actually have some of the soft stuff they put on the inside of splints) along the top edge? That wouldn't hurt anything, would it? I also tried patting some baby powder on the red part to make it feel better... it did help a little. I'd use vaseline or something, but I can't get the cast wet.
So until I hear back from the doctor, what should I do to make him a little more comfortable?

If its a place you can reach, line the area w/a small piece of plastic like a ziplock, and then use cream - vaseline or itch cream.
My kid was in a cast once and for quickie cream jobs, I stuck a small flat spatula against the cast and then used a qtip to give the red area a quick swipe of cream.

Why don't you just get one of those huge band-aids and put it where it is rubbing. Just make sure it is sticking out enough that you can pull it off and it doesn't get scrunched up and trapped in the cast.

I think it would be okay. If the doctor is busy can you maybe ask his regular pediatrician if he has any suggestions for it.

I might try blowing up (lightly) a small balloon and covering it in cotton 'batting' and gently snug that in there...and see what doc has to say!!

No harm trying the sift stuff right? And maybe some Gold Bond powder.
Can't the nurse at the ortho's office answer this question? I agree to cal & ask his pediatrician also.
Get some "Mole Skin" from a pharmacy or Walmart. It is a slightly fuzzy thick sticky back material. It can be put along the top of the cast and it won't hurt the healing process any.
