Hey mamas! My daughter's second birthday is coming up and I am wanting to do a frito pie type dinner using shredded beef instead of chili. My sister has been doing this for her last couple of bithday parties and she gets a shredded brisket from a BBQ place. I was going to do the same, but I called and for the number of people I need to serve (30) it was going to be 100 bucks. Ouch! I usually just do pizza and spend about $60, so I thought maybe I could just do the beef myself for around that much and save some money. Problem is, after googling recipes I'm overwhelmed!

So, if any of you have a tried and true version I'd love you to share! Thanks!

I know this one!!!! Girlfriend, CROCK POT!!! I've done this twice a month for about a year. I keep shredded beef in the fridge and it always gets gobbled up. For the party, cook it the day or two before, then fridge it. You can heat it in a skillet with a tiny bit of oil on med-high heat.
My recipe:
Get your roast (whatever's on sale) unwrapped
Heat a big pot --EMPTY--ON HIGH
On a plate, mix a bunch of salt, garlic powder, and pepper together
Then dip your roast on the salt plate and get the mix all over the meat
Then put it in the hot pot and let each side brown about two minutes
Turn that off
Put the meat in the crock pot
Add half an onion, 2 cloves of garlic, a can of tomato sauce and if you have it 1/2 a pack of onion soup mix
Fill with water to cover the meat
Cook high 3-4 hours, low 4-6 hours or until falls apart with your fork. When near done, taste the juice and season to your liking.
Good luck!! Let me know if you try this and if so, how it comes out for you!!

bake a roast beef with bell peppers and onions in the oven when fully cooked add flour on top add hot water mix it still in the pan and put back in the oven to get the texture then shred it. This is the cheaper and tasty way let me know if you like it or you can use this one:

This luscious and tender recipe can be used as a sandwich filling, for tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and even as an appetizer dip. It's versatile!
Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 9 hours

Total Time: 9 hours, 20 minutes

Ingredients:

2 lb. fresh beef brisket
1 Tbsp. olive oil
10 oz. can condensed beef broth
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 onion, chopped, if desired
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
Preparation:

Trim excess fat from beef. Heat oil in 10" skillet over medium heat. Cook beef for 10 minutes, turning frequently, to brown all sides.
Place beef in 3-1/2 to 6-quart slow cooker. Pour remaining ingredients over beef. cover and cook on low heat setting for 8-10 hours, until beef is tender.

Remove beef from crockpot and shred, using two forks. Skim fat from juices in crockpot, and add beef. Keep on low setting until ready to serve, and while serving too. Serves 10-12

I cook and entertain alot so here is my tip for the day - don't do what your sister does! That means everyone is going to be comparing hers to yours. If you liked it - do a twist on it and make it your own. All you need is a crockpot on low and a big ole beef roast. (arm, shoulder, butt, whatevers on sale) Put the roast in with a bottle of bbq sauce. No Big deal. Then 6-8 hours later shred it. Serve it on a taco bar. Put out tortillas and shredded cheese. Shredded lettuceand tomato, pico de gaillo, and salsa. Normally I would set out chips and salsa stations here and there for people to gather around conversationally but in your case why not bowls of refried beans with frito chips - like they do at that Mexican Inn place in Fort Worth. Now you;\'ve got the same components but in a totally new, fun, entertaining way. All I've said would run you around $40. Including the meat!!!

Yummmm...your request is making me hungry. I just wanted to say my aunt did a shredded pork in the crock pot and you could put it on little buns or tortillas. I ate 3 on tortillas with jalepenos because they were SO yummy!

I do brisket on the grill. Find a big one that you can bend in half in the grocery store, they are the most tender. I just sprinkle with garlic salt, wrap it in foil, and put it on the grill on low all day long. You can usually just shred it with a fork if you cook it long enough, then add what ever you need. Not sure how many pounds you need to serve 30!

Okay, it isn't beef, but cookscountrytv.com has a great pulled pork recipe that is yummy!! They may have something for beef. You have to register, but can look at this season's recipes for free.

In my opinion, I would go for the $100 ready to pick up if you are trying to serve 30 people. It will save you the hassle and time spent. You already have a 2 year old running around, don't add to your stress that day! :-)

Just my thoughts for your sanity!
