my one year old son had trouble when he was born. when i had contractions his heart rate would go down and it was because the cord was wrapped around his neck, in between his legs, and around his chest. he came out grey and they thought they would have to do cpr but he started crying and was fine. I just found out i am currently pregnant with my second child, coud the same thing happen to it?

What can I do next?

Probably like lightening striking twice... the odds are probably quite slim.
That is my unprofessional guess.

Every pregnancy is different. Relax and don't worry until there is something to worry about.

Congratulations!

I had triplets and I had the same happen to one of them. They could not get the heraat rate to stay up on one of them but the ultrasound did not show why so I had an emergency c-section. When he went to pull her out, he felt the cord around her neck so was able to take extra care on her. She is now 11 and totally fine. I also have a 31 month old that nothing happened with the cord. I had a neighbor a long time ago that the cord got stuck on her 2nd baby. They did end up doing CPR and the baby was fine after. Her 3rd was fine. We never know when things may happen. I would not say it could not happen but the chances don't increase with each child you have. Congrats and enjoy your pregnancy.

Okay it's totally scary, and yes something could happen, but you have no more likelihood for it to happen again just because it happened once, so maybe that's a comfort?! My daughter was breech b/c the cord was wrapped around her neck and she couldn't move into head down position. I had to find that out and still continue carrying her for 3 more weeks...talk about nerve wracking! TRY not to worry and just go with the flow. My second pregnancy was just fine and he went head down and had no problems. Congrats on the pregnancy and hang in there!

It could.
But it probably won't.
Talk to the nurse advisor/educator regarding exercises,
possibly yoga, to do during your pregnancy.
And consider asking for a sonogram a couple of weeks before due date.

Some people are prone to having long umbilical cords that can cause this to happen. Make sure you mention your past problems to your current OB/GYN and they will monitor you to prevent this from reoccurring.

Your doctor should be aware of your past problems, but I wouldn't focus on that. The cord was around both of my girls necks. My first one was finally taken by c-section because her heart rate was so low. She was blue when she was born. My second one came out pink.

I found during my second pregnancy that I couldn't focus on the things that happened during my first (they told me I was abrupting at 13 1/2 weeks...but I didn't and then preterm labor at 28 weeks so bedrest until my due date) but it was an entirely different deal.

Good luck to both you, your family and your new baby!

This is pretty routine stuff. Don't worry about it.

Well a friend of mine had this happen with her first daughter but her second daughter had an umbilical cord so short it snapped during the birth and she had trouble passing the placenta! So you can't tell I guess...
