My mom doesn't thinks that i can recycle old electronics so i am trying to prove her wrong. Any way does anyone know how i can recycle my old computers, monitors, keyboards, and my old vhs?
I used gazelle.com. They pay you for stuff they can resell or If there is little/no market value then they will recycle for you.
Best Buy. You pay them $10 to take it, but they give it back to you in the form of a gift card to best buy. Since we shop there occassionaly anyway it works for us and it helps to know I am recycling and not throwing it in the dump.
I even took my neighbors stuff there.
Check with your city/town to see if they conduct any electronics/small appliance recycling drives. Most of the towns here in IL do and it is SUCH a relief to get them out of the house!
You didn't happen to mention if these items are working or not. If they are working, you might try listing them on Freecycle (just google it - I think it is a Yahoo group officially, but there will be one specifically to your geographic location). Also, you might try gazelle.come. I had mixed luck with them. They said they'd send a box to me, but never did. Others have had luck. Supposedly if you have something to recycle that works and is worth anything, Gazelle will also take all the other "junk" that you can fit in the box for free to recycle for you. Good luck and you're great to want to recycle !
If you have a Dell computer, Goodwill contracts with them to recycle old computers and be able to give them to low-income children who need them. I'm not sure if Goodwill does it with other computers, but I just took mine up there and they took everything away. Just make sure you delete any personal information off of it beforehand (even though they will usually refurbish them).
Best Buy also recycles most things. I took my TV up there when I bought a new one and they took care of it all.
Salvation Army and Good will both accept electronics, including old working tv's. (this can also be used as a charitable donation for your taxes, with receipts from the business).
Our town also has some recycling, as does my mother's community. Check with your town office for info.
Before taking an old computer somewhere, you may also want to remove personal info- credit card numbers, etc.

Some dumps have a swap shop where you can leave stuff and find stuff that may be of use to you. A lot of my boy's outdoor toys, Tonka, bikes, etc. came from there. Otherwise, the question has been answered well on here already.
If you take a computer anywhere for recycling, make sure you scrub everything off the hard drive, or destroy the hard drive first.
Actually it is better to recycle than to throw away those items. Check with any electronic retail store or local goodwill.
As another mom already wrote, call your town public works department. They will take these items for free or tell you where and when you can bring them to be recycled.

I'm not sure about vhs, but I know Best Buy does recycle most electronics and they have details about it on their website. I think pretty much any store that sells electronics has a recycling program for them. I'd just call a store near you and ask about it.
For some reason goodwill comes to mind. If you have one in your area you might want to give them a call. I also agree with the previous poster, I would think you city would have some kind of electronic recycling drive.

I think the computer stuff can go either to Staples or Best Buy. Heard that BBuy will give you a $10 gift card for certain items that you drop off to recycle. Call them both and ask what they will take.
bring it all to Best Buy to see what they will take (probably most of it). you can also check the websites for the manufacturers--almost all will give you links to how to recycle old products.
Best Buy takes all of these. I've taken mine there and it is very easy.
