So What Happened?

We were traveling up the coast of CA - flew into LA & worked our way north ending up in San Francisco. I actually called the Chamber of Commerce in Capitola and she referred me to the Best Western Seacliff Inn in Aptos nearby. It was wonderful!!! Much better rates than in Santa Cruz. Our room was very nice, and the grounds were beautiful! Free breakfast buffet with waffles, blueberry pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, potatoes, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, juice, coffee, etc. etc. etc. It was great. We would definitely stay there again!

Santa Cruz tends to have mostly smaller motels. There are a couple of larger ones, but not really of the chain type....you can search on-line, but I never felt like I found the perfect hotel in Santa Cruz.

You might want to look into a house rental....I think there is a website Vacation Rentals by owners. We always try and get some sort of 2 room suite when we travel with our 3 kids...and it isn't always easy to find unless you want to pay a lot. Not sure how many days you will be in CA, but a house might fit your needs better. We've been checking them out for a week at the beach next summer. We are finding the cost about as much as a hotel would each night, but have more space and we can cook.

I had several business trips there over the past couple years. It is definitely a beach town. Most of the hotels there are "mom & pop" type places. Most of my trips there were to the Hampton Inn. The rooms are nice...not much in the way of free breakfast but right next door to Denny's. Also stayed at a Best Western...did have free breakfast there...but decided to collect points more from the Hampton/Hilton chain.

Go to the chamber of commerce in that city on the internet and look up hotels, or you can find someone who is in AAA.......

If you want to just look for a hotel, here's two sites.....http://ht.ly/1EiEJ

Good Luck.......have fun!!

If you don't mind going further south a bit, there is a great resort on the beach with suites.
