We are tentatively planning our 1st family vacation to San Diego. We would like to find a hotel that is conveniently located within walking distance to both Sea World and the Zoo. Its hard telling from some of the hotel websites so if anyone is familiar with that area and the hotels, any feedback is greatly appreciated. We are trying not to get a rental car and don't want to have to rely on cabs/shuttles and have to transport a carseat around. Thanks so much.

K.,

We just went to San Diego last month. We relied on our GPS so I don't really know where everything is but I do recall that driving is required for most places. We stayed at the Homewood Suites, Liberty Station which was great. They have breakfast every a.m. and the rooms have small kitchenettes. It was within 5 min. driving time from everything we did (except for Legoland which is about 20-25 miles north). Speaking of Legoland, I'm not sure how old your kids are but mine are 7, 5 & 3 and that was one of their favorite places to go. I know a rental car is another added expense but you may appreciate splurging on one - we sure were glad we had one! Hope that helps.

K., We've been to San Diego several times, I don't think you can walk to your destinations! You'd be walking all day.

You might consider a trip to Lego Land. I don't know what age your kiddos are but they have lots of rides for little and big kids.

Good Luck, M.

We stayed at Embassy Suites in La Jolla last summer. Free breakfast, suite rooms, and a decent distance between Sea World, the Zoo and Lego land. Easy drive to the beach and dining as well.

I grew up in SD. There is no hotel within walking distance of both they are in different parts of town. You might be able to find something by the Zoo but the hotels are a little ways from Sea World. There is however a great public transit system out there. Hope this helps.

We just moved here from San Diego. The best centrally located place to stay is in the mission valley area. You will still need a car, but drive time to zoo or sea world is only minutes. Some hotels may offer shuttles, worth checking. Have a wonderful time! It's a great place. I'm ready to move back!!!!!!!!!!

PS - Another place worth going to is La Jolla. Walk the beach and go to the children's beach. The seals have taken over the children's beach and they are great fun to see up close. My kids just love this!!! Ask anyone in La Jolla and they can point directly to it.
