Hello, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.

We will be going to southern CA in February for vacation. We have a time-share in Anaheim so we go there once a year. We are looking for different things to do this year. We had considered traveling to Vegas for one end of the trip but the cost associated with the rental car and airfare is knocking that one off the list.

We have been to San Diego many times and LOVE it. As a matter of fact we always say if we win the lottery we'll move to San Diego. Our boys are 16 and 13. We've done Sea World and Lego Land (when they were younger). They don't seem too interested in the idea of visiting the zoo, I would love that.

Any fun ideas? They don't have to be all day destinations it can be little out of the way fun things.

Thanks,

M.

There is an air force carrier that you can tour which the boys would probably love. It is the USS Midway and it's open daily: http://www.midway.org/

Even if they aren't interested in the zoo, they might like the Safari Park: http://www.sdzsafaripark.org/

Coronado Bay - that's where US Navy ships are docked. You can go on the USS Midway - my boys did that in the summer of 2013 and they are still talking about it (mine are 12 and 14).

Have you done the W. Animal Park? That's different than the zoo. It's almost like you are on safari.

What about the Birch Aquarium?

There's Belmont Park - thre's an "Adrenaline zone" where you can go zip-lining, rock climbing...my nephews do this together.

February MIGHT be a good time for dolphin and whale watching.

Catalina Island is Los Angeles, however, you may have fun there too!!

Have a blast!

Belmont Park? We had fun there a few years ago. It's small and relatively low-key, plus it's on the beach. The website looks like there's more there than when we visited.

If they're interested in history, Old Town might be something to consider.

Balboa Park has tons of museums.

Too bad they aren't interested in the Zoo - it's the best!

Like Taylor, I'd put them in charge of researching stuff to do and presenting ideas for a family vote ;-)

Do your boys like sports? Maybe try and catch a UCSD sporting event, Basketball will be in full swing by then and Baseball or Wrestling might be as well.

I know San Diego use to be largely military, maybe there is a museum or base tours you could go on?

Maybe just let the boys do research and pick one place each to go.

From Angel stadium, you can catch a train for a day trip to San Diego. You could just go for a nice Mexican lunch in old town, or head north to L.A. and stop at Union Station and walk to Oliveras street for a bite to eat. The train ride south is beautiful with ocean views. The trip to L.A. is not as scenic. On Weekends the trains are really cheap and empty.
