Has anyone stayed at the Best Western River North in Chicago? If so, what did you think?
I mainly want to know if it's a clean, decent hotel. We don't need anything too fancy. Also, Is it a good location to do things downtown?

Also, any "must see, must eat, must do" things you'd like to share.

Please keep in mind...this trip is a splurge for us, so we're looking for things that are NOT TOO expensive. We like local favorite restaurants, etc.

**Edit: This is a trip for just me and my hubby...no kids! keep the responses coming!

What can I do next?

We stayed at the BWRN about 4 years ago. It is a nice, clean hotel. It has its own parking garage and an indoor pool. I would definitely stay there again.

It is right across from the Rock 'n Roll McDonald's and the Rain Forest Cafe. Ed Debevics, Gino's East (my favorite pizza out of all the pizza places we ate at), Hard Rock Cafe and Lou Malnati's are just a short walk. The subway is about 4 blocks or so away. It is a great location because it isn't right on the Magnificent Mile so it is a bit of a quieter area but it is still close to everything.

If you like to go to zoos, the Lincoln Park Zoo is free. There is a children's museum at Navy Pier that my dd liked (dh took her while my sister and I shopped).

I'll have to see if I can find our pictures to jog my memory on what else we did while we were there. My sister and I did go to 3 scrapbook/stamp stores while we were there and dh took dd to do other things. The thing that sticks out in my mind was that we did a ton of walk even though we got a weeks pass for the subway.

This is my fav hotel in Chicago! I have stayed numerous times both with my husband and on a girls weekend and had a blast each time. Its a really nice hotel despite its outer appearance and best perk of all is free parking. The River North area has amazing (and well priced) restaurants all within walking distance of this hotel. My favs are Sunda, Weber Grill, and harry Carry's. If you are looking for good lounges try Epic, Public House, and Bull and Bear (more of a dive bar feel). Everything I mentioned is within walking distance. Have fun!

The BW is fine. A nice hotel for the $$. but a little off the beaten path, so depending on what you want to do you'll have to cab it some. Remember carseats if your kids need them for the cabs. If you are driving, factor in the $$ for parking-it's usually like $33/day in downtown over night. I would suggest leaving your car at the hotel if you can and walk or cab-maybe just me, but I hate driving in DT Chicago.

The museum of science and industry, the shedd aquarium, (navy pier, (if it's nice out), shopping on Michigan Ave, (go to the old Marshall Fields-now Macy's-so fun and HUGE). The architectural boat tour. It depends on your kids age-but the museums are fun for everyone. We just went with our 3 yr old to the mus of sciene/Indus and he had a ball!
