We currently use CoServe and have paid over $500 on our electric bill all summer. Can anyone recommend a good electric company that's more competitive with their pricing?

What can I do next?

I use the website www.powertochoose.com to find cheaper rates. I am no longer loyal to any one company. I shop the rates all the time and have been known to switch several time a year if I find a better rate. Our supplier is Oncor; but, it doesn't matter who provides the electricity to them. Therefore, my service never changes; just my bills! The website will also tell you what providers are in your neighborhood, too.

We were very loyal to Reliant for over 10 yrs then this past Dec they did not renew our contract pricing. They were going up to 15.2.

I did some research and came up with Champion Energy and we signed a 12 month contract with them and we get 11.2. We've had no issues with them and are happy with the service. Before renewal again, I will recheck pricing but I am one to be loyal so we'll probably stick with Champion unless the price is unreasonable.

Our highest bill this summer was $394. for 4000+ sq ft and we are not stingy on the thermostat. I admit that we can be quite wasteful at times.

Last year, we did put more insulation in the attics. Our highest bill ever was $700+ before insulation and upgrading furnaces, heating/AC units.

Good luck! Oh. we are in West Allen/Far North Plano area.

I have to agree with T F we justed moved to Allen a year ago and chose Champion Energy because they were the lowest rate and just renewed our contract with them. I believe the websire powertochoose.org allows you to see all the rates of different electric companies. Good Luck! :)

Let me know what you find out. We are also with CoServe and it is our understanding that it is a co-op which would require them allowing other providers in the area. And it is my understanding that Co-Serve is not allowing. We also do averaging as I don't want those very high bills in the summer.

Again, please let me know if you find you can switch. I would be very interested.
