Hi ladies, my DH and I have two daughters and are officially done having children. My question is this...how long did it take for your husband to recover from a routine vasectomy surgery? Did he have a lot of bruising, pain, etc.? Mine got his done Friday and has been laying low for a few days. Mild bruising and soreness...but developed a cold over the weekend and I'm concerned if it develops into something more and how it may affect his recovery, etc. Your input appreciated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks all for your responses. He has a little bruising on one side and soreness of course, but is fine. The cold only lasted a few days. A little whiny, but that's typical right? Thanks again!

My husband has his on a Friday and went back to work on Monday even though he was still a little sore. The only thing I would worry about with the cold is if he gets a cough....that might make some strain in that area and bother him some; but some cough meds should help if needed. Best of luck at getting him back to normal. C.

My husband was laying around for 2 days, then back to normal. He had some soreness, but did what the doc advised and everything went great. The cold sh ould not effect anything....just annoys the situationas one lady said.

My husband was the same, in on Friday and back to work Monday. I would worry about coughing and the stress down there if it is a forceful cough, otherwise he will probably be fine. My biggest problem is now that we are thru the procedure my husband is now needing to be nagged about going back in to drop off a "sample" to make sure it worked!!
Good Luck!!

Hi, my husband had it done about 4mo ago. He had it done on a fri. and went back to work on that mon. He did have a little soreness that did not last long. He also had a little bleeding and went back in and the dr. said that is normal. after about a week he was back to normal with no pain. Good luck with everything.

My husband had a vasectomy 1 1/2 yrs. ago. He was sore for a few days, he had brusing and some pain. I think he probably received a prescription from the doctor for the pain. After a few days he was fine, we went on vacation a week later!
I don't think a cold will have anything to do with his recovery, it may just be a little more frustrating for him to have a cold while recovering.
I have 3 kids, 13, 10 and almost 2 yrs. 2 boys, 1 girl. My husband and I say we'd like another child (wink, wink) but he's not willing to reverse the vasectomy and I wouldn't want him to. I'm 37yrs. and my husband is 41yrs.,we are definately done having kids, I'm grateful and blessed for what I have.

I do not have a lot of personal experience with this sort of procedure or recovery.
My brother had it done, I think he was up and about a few days afterwards. From what I understood they had to wait like 12 weeks before they were able to be "carefree".

Make sure he takes it easy for the next few days. His cold should not affect this very much. Did they tell him to use cold packs for the bruising and swelling?
Mine had terrible bruising and pain with swelling because he mistakenly thought a hot bath would be good for the pain. It doubled it, and doubled the swelling and the bruising, and the poor guy couldn't walk for a week!
So keep him away from the tub, to say the least!
He is my ex husband, but I still remember and feel sorry for him!
