hey everyone, just wondering if any of you know of a nice place to have a wedding reception. my cousin is getting married next year in the fall and she is looking for a banquet hall to host approximately 300 people. she wanted to have it in the city but she says it's pretty costly and/or the places are already booked. so she is now considering the suburbs. ideally the place would be close to our church, which is in Itasca (close to the Schaumburg area). also, if anyone knows of a good wedding planner i could recommend, that would also be helpful. thanks to all of you for reading this!

What can I do next?

Hi I.,

I had my reception at the Belvedere in Elk Grove, right of Rohlwing and Nerge, about a mile from the Thorndale exit. It's new and the place is beautiful and the staff were professional, attentive and just great. It's also close to Itasca so tell her to check it out....

I got married a little over a year ago and we had our reception at Villa Olivia in Bartlett on Lake Street (Rte 20) close to Rte 59. We LOVED it! We had so many compliments from people telling us how nice it was and how great the food was. We looked around and they were the best price and most comprehnsive package - we got the room from 6pm-12 midnight, got a champagne toast for everyone (not just head table), premium open bar for 5 1/2 hours (they close it during dinner) & for our cocktail hour we were able to have it outside - weather permitting, our cake was included by an EXCELLENT BAKER who was willing to custom make the cake and no extra cost, and they had very nice table decorations you could use if you wanted at no extra cost. When we booked in 2005 they told us there would be a price increase in 2006, but I talked them out of having to pay that since we were booking in 2005-before the increase. They were willing to work with us on EVERYTHING! (Oh, and you get a bridal suite where the bride can bustle her train and freshen her makeup and there's a bottle of champagne on their for her too)! Because it's a golf/country club, we were able to take some BEAUTIFUL pictures on the green and around the fountain and gazebo they have as well.

We had our reception at Beau Jolie in Schiller Park. (A lot of people still remember it as the Starlight.) Its near Itasca at Manheim and Lawerence. We loved having it there and would highly recommend it. We had 250 people, I think it held up to 450. Good luck!!

We had our wedding reception at Starlight Inn. I know they changed the name since then. I think another poster (Stacy) mentioned the new name. I believe it is in Schiller Park on Mannheim road. It's easy access to the expressways. It's near O'Hare. The view is fabulous because the restaurant is on the top floor and 3 out of the 4 walls are actually windows. It was pretty looking out at night and seeing all the lights. We had plenty of room with 275 guests. Our food was great and the sweet table looked beautiful.

I LOVED our reception hall. We had it at The Seville in Streamwood on Barrington Rd. They were EXCELLENT to work with. The food was great. The cake was beautiful and tasted great and was included in the package. They have great packages. We had an earlier reception (wedding at 10am and reception was immediately after until 4 or 5pm) because with an ealier reception the same package was like half the cost. Got married 6.5 years ago now, but LOVED our reception hall. It was so nice for such a reasonable cost! :)
We didn't have a wedding planner because I LOVED planning it all myself, but Karrie Latoria is great if she is close enough...friendly, organized, helpful, experienced...

Try the Itasca Country Club, Itasca Holiday Inn or there is a new Italian banquet/restaurant on Lake St and Swift in Medinah that is really close.

We had really good luck with "The Seville" for our reception. The staff bent over backwards to create a food creation that wasn't even on the menu (we're vegetarian) and had a great time. They're in Streamwood (www.theseville.com). Since we had our reception on a Saturday afternoon (July 4th) rather than evening, everything was half-price, so we were able to pull out all the stops with dessert.

This was 10 years ago - I don't know if they've changed in any way.
