Question About an Injury!

A strange question but I thought I would at least try to see if anyone could help. About an hour ago my husband was outside and stepped on a sprinkler head while running around pushing the kids in a wheelbarrow, causing an injury to the side of his foot (right on the arch but close to the edge of the foot on the inner side). There is only a tiny poke of a skin injury, but there is a half-dollar size area that is super hard and swollen and excruciating to the touch. The thing that is making it odd to me is how hard the lump is... has anyone injured their foot like this before? Is it just the swelling making it so hard? He can hardly walk on it because the pain is so bad. Of course he has no desire to go to the dr though (men!). Any thoughts??

What can I do next?

I had fallen one time and bruised my foot in the area that you had indicated. It did swell up and was hard and was very, very painful. I couldn't walk on it or put a shoe on for a month. I don't know if what you are discribing is a contusion on the bottom of your huband's foot but I would probably get him to urgent care or the ER to have a checked out just in case. Better safe than sorry.

Hope his foot feels better soon.

Hopefully he will decide to go to the doctor. There are so many bones in your feet and I wouldn't want to mess around with one healing wrong and requiring surgery or something!

something similar happened to my grandma recently and it turned out to be a blood clot. She thought she stepped on it wrong and it instantly was swollen up and super painful.

He better go to the Doctor.... has he has a Tetanus shot lately??

He could have a hematoma injury.... a clotting/bruising internally under the skin...
regardless... guessing at it will not help.
Doing things to it without knowing what is wrong, will not help.
Not knowing how bad his injury is or what is wrong... will not make it better.
What if it gets infected????
Or something gets gangrene or something???

He NEEDS to be a "Man" and go to the Doctor... or ER... or Urgent Care office.

all the best,
Susan

My husband sprained his ankle and it looked like this. He just had to stay off of it for weeks. I don't know if this is the same thing but I know what you mean about not wanting to go to the doctor. Maybe he can wait a few days to see how it goes before deciding whether or not to see the doctor. Good luck!

Also ask if he needs a tetanus booster. If it broke the skin (even slightly) they may recommend a tetanus shot especially if the sprinkler was rusty.
