Puffy Eyes

Just curious to know what makes your eyes so puffy after you have been crying? Especially, if I have been right before I go to sleep. Sometimes I wake up and they are so puffy, they are almost swollen shut. Does anyone else experience this, and do you have any remedies to help reduce the swelling, as it can be somewhat embarrassing. I have tried the witch hazel cream, with no result. Thanks for your advice!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all of your advice. I have a bunch of new ideas to try! And just to ease some of your worries (which, I do appreaciate!) I am not constantly crying or anything like that, I just wear my heart on my sleeve, and it has been an emotional couple of years for my family..lots of ups and downs, but I keep faith that it is all making us stronger and luckily I have an awesome support group, including all of you!!! Thank you so very much.

I am unfortunately a professional when it comes to crying. I also have to get up and go to work every morning even if I have been blubbering all night. I know it sounds weird, but preparation H works for those under the eye bags. I hope that helps.

It's a little known secret, but celebrities use Preparation H to shrink and tighten swollen tissues around their eyes - I tried it, and it worked for me, too. I would only use it at night though... It's also inexpensive. I do, however, hope you only need it occasionally... Good luck!

Puffiness of the eyes can happen for several reasons. From crying (of course), from allergies, envirnment, tiredness, eye strain...

I have the solution for your puffiness, Beauticontrol has Nourishing Eye Pads with cucumber & ivy extract, the perfect eye refresher, de-puffer, and allergy fixer. They can even disguise an all-nighter. They are like a power nap! These are all natural and kept naturally cool by the cucumber and witch hazel.....

let me know if you would like a sample....check them out at my online store.....

I've never tried this personally, but hemoroid cream is supposed to work wonders. It will take away any redness and also reduce the puffiness. Warm tea bags are also supposed to help. Hope this helps a bit.

I cried ALOT while growing up and dealt with this exact problem. My eyes looked as though someone had punched them...minus the bruises.

I'd splash my face with cold water several times and then take a cold, soggy washcloth and hold it on my eyes until the cloth felt warm. Then I'd re-cold the cloth and do it again.

The results are not instant but it does help fairly quickly.

Hi K.,
I used to experience puffy eyes from the lack of sleep. I think if you use a good botanical based eye cream (meaning ingredients that are pure and free of fragrance, dyes, mineral oil, petroleum, etc.)you will see results immediately. Plus, you will lighten any dark circles, freckles, or sun/age spots while reducing the signs of aging and fine lines.

I use an anti-aging Corrective Eye Cream and love it and its price ($49 retail, 35% less wholesale). I'd be happy to let you try the eye cream in your home for a week for free. I am an Arbonne consultant and would love to help you and anyone else learn about our fabulous products that produce results.

Give me a call ###-###-#### or email me at ____@____.com if you would like to learn more.

Best of luck to you.
Sincerely,
D.

This isn't a cream or anything, but 5 to 10 minutes of having a cool washcloth over my eyes seems to remedy it for me.

Hello K. - This happens to me, too...although I don't know exactly why. I have learned a couple tricks to reduce puffy eyes in the AM...
First, be sure you remove ALL of your eye makeup using a quality product for that purpose. Before, during or after a good cry this seems to make a big difference.
Next, try rinsing your face and eyes with plenty of cool water (not icy cold, just cool). Rinse as if you were rinsing to remove makeup. Lots of cool water seems to soothe the irritation and help reduce immediate swelling.
Then wet a washcloth with cool water and place over your eyes when you hop back into bed ... and try not to cry too much more.
I am so sorry you are crying. Please take care.

Not sure what causes the puffiness.

Mary Kay makes some wonderful products for under-eye puffiness. www.marykay.com
Let me know if you would like to try something.

I've heard cucumber slices can help-also warm tea bags or a warm washcloth.

K., the puffiness around your eyes is caused by lack of moisture in the eye area (especially after crying). I am a Mary Kay consultant and the best thing I have ever used for soothing the eye area and reducing puffiness is our Indulge Soothing Eye Gel. It has cucumber extract in it and feels so great. If you don't have a Mary Kay consultant I'd be glad to get this product to you if you want to try it.

K., I also have this same problem. Recently Valentines came and of course my husband did nothing as usual. I cried myself to sleep and woke up with severly swollen eyes. I'd love to know the remedy to this one as well.

If you have been crying and think you could have a problem, use a cold wash cloth over your eyes as you are going to sleep. That always helps me.

Dear K.,

My name is A. and I am a mother of a 19mo. old boy and I am also happily married for 5 years. and I havefound that a cold plastic mask works. I bought the ne that goes around the eyes and I keep it in the freezer just in case. I only wear it for about 15 minutes before bed. If freezer is too much try the fridge.

Hope this helps.

A.
