You can also get the clear plastic floor covers that don't have nubs on the bottom. We've had laminate in the office for 5 years and the rolling chair has been on a plastic cover from Staples or Office Max ever since.
I work from home full time and have noticed the floor beneath my desk chair is not at shiny as the rest of the floor. What could I use to protect the floor? One of those clear, plastic mats won't work because they have "nubs" to hang on to carpet.
Thanks to everyone that responded. I didn't realize there were clear mats w/o "nubs". I'll definitely be buying one.

We were able to find inexpensive clear plastic mats that don't have the nubbie things at a used office furniture place and they work great. Another idea, which is something I'd like to do, is to get the new bamboo mats that are made for serving the same purpose. They are "prettier" and come in a variety of colors. I think if you do a search online, you'll be able to see what they are.
You gotta get a floor protector, like how offices have.
It is clear, and you place it on the floor of your desk.
Some are rubber like (with nubs) and some are like clear acrylic types.
Look at office supply stores.
They make clear chair mats for hard surfaces without nubs. I'm sitting on one right now!
They actually have the clear plastic mats without the nubs for hard floors! :) http://www.americanfloormats.com/chair-mats-hard-surfaces/
If you look in the catalogs at Staples or some other office supply stores you'll see they also have pads that are just like the ones that go on carpet but are for hard floors.
Get a small throw rug.
