My accupuncturist suggested (she has a 3 year old and gives it to her). giving my 2 year old probiotics because it helps with immunmity and constipation. My little girl has had multiple back to back colds and 3 back to back ear infections. She is also very prone to constipation. There is a childrens called Flurostar and then the adult Culturelle. I bought the childrens but it does not contain lactobacillis. The ingredients are different.
i thought probiotics were given to kids when they are on antibiotics to protect their gut.
she also recommended I given her something by Nordic Naturals called baby DHA which is a vitamin that has fish oils and vit. D 3. Any thoughts on these?

thanks

What can I do next?

Probiotics are not just for taking on antibiotics. They do help immensely during antibiotics, though. They help with strengthening the immune system, restoring good bacteria in the gut (which is essential for a healthy immune system), regulating bowel movements, helping acid reflux, regulate yeast, help combat ear infections, and many more positive results.

I have not personally used florastor, but have heard many good things. Nordic Naturals I have used, and it's a wonderful brand. Nothing to worry about there, it's a great product.

There are many kinds of probiotics... what is missing in one can usually be gotten from eating organic yogurts in addition to the supplement.

Eventho probiotics are great when taking antibiotics, it is good to take every day anyways.

DHA is great, but Nordic Naturals are not very good. Not much Vit. D in those things. It's all Vit. A. The ratio of A to D is important.

If you do, I'd be very careful and monitor her closely. You're putting bactteria into a child, who may have a low immune system and might cause other problems. Our whole family can't even eat the probiotic yogurt or we wind up with "the runs" and cramps. Constipation is so easy to take care of in young children, since they are much smaller than us. All you need to do is to increase her fruit intake. Raisins and prunes are great as well as apples. (Apple juice does not have any fiber, but apple cider does.) What about raw bell peppers? The red ones are sweeter than the green. As for colds and ear infections....Have her keep her hands out of her ears and eat more regular yogurt and salmon. Vitamin C is great for preventing colds. You really do not want to give her too many antibotics or her system will not learn how to fight a cold. When I was growing up, I had trouble with my immune system too. The doctor told my mom that every medicine had to be half the doseage to get my body to fight. Once it kicked in, I only get 1 cold per year.

Believe it or not, a lot of our immunity comes from our gut! My 5yo has been on Nordic Naturals for at least 2 years now for the same issues - constipation and colds. Worked like a charm!

Use the probiotics...I use them all the time for myself and it does help with all of the aforementioned....
