It is funny that someone stated that you must first accept on post housing since housing shoved private rentals down our throat when we got here and did not want to give us any of the on post housing available. I do now have on post housing, and agree with the others it is best for you to get here and speak with Renee who can help you better with housing situations. And by all means do not allow them to pressure you into taking advance payday loans for any deposits on rent or rent, it will only get you into financial problems.

hey best thing to do is put an add in the newspaper- in the German newspaper- frankenshun tag- or something like that. Describe the situation- dog, kids, location-
from what I gather German's would rather search the want adds than pay for an add themselves! Also there is a gentleman by the name of Gonzman- again sounds like but might not be spelled right- this guy has lots of properties and loves to take Americans money:)- you can get his number through housing- if you ask the right way
Happy to help

Hello, I am in Bamberg. I just called the housing office for you. There is a restriction on Housing depending on rank and size of the family as to weather you can go into private rentals. I also asked if it would be possible for you to start looking now, but the lady said that you would have to in process before you can do anything in Bamberg. I don't like that answer for you but I wanted to offer the most updated information. If you would like further information about the post or the town I would be more than happy to help. Also you can check out www.bamberg.army.mil I hope this helps, God bless.

I don't know the rules at Bamberg, but most of Germany posts state that if quarters are available on post, you have to take them. However, if you qualify for one reason or another to rent offpost, check with the Offpost Housing Office in Bamberg they should be able to give you a list of available houses to call and look at.

Also, if you try and contact a local rental agent, they will charge you a finders fee that is not reimbursable through the military. It is about 1500 to 4500 euros depending on the type of property you are looking for.

Good luck,
A.
