My question for all of you mommys out there: Is there any pre-pregancy/conception advice you have for me that you wish you knew before you got pregnant or would have done beforehand? I appreciate any advice.

Things I'm currently doing now/before July:Training for a Triathlon, eating healthy, taking prenatal/misc vitamins, and Herbal infusions.:-)

Thank you so much ladies and have a wonderful day. N.

So What Happened?

Wow!! You Ladies are Fantastic! Thank you..Thank you so much for all of your advice, please keep it coming. I would never have imagined..! :-) Luckily I don't take the pill, my body couldn't handle it and so I opted to have an IUD put it(it will be 5 years in July), and my doc said once I get it taken out I can get pregnant right away? Any of you ladies have any trouble geting pregnant with the IUD? Thank you so much again:-) N.

Hi N.!

I know exactly how you feel! 7 years ago, I was in your place, and about your same age. A friend in Denver recommended a book called, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by a Seattle author Toni Weschler. Wow, what you'll learn about your body will astound you! I was pregnant the third month of trying, and in the best shape of my life! (I was training as well, what a great way to go into your pregnancy, makes it a snap!)

I really suggest you get a copy of the book! (I know of 6 women who've successfully used the book, I can't believe no one recommended it!)

Best of luck to you!

If you want to get pregnant at a specific time, find out ahead of time when exactly you ovulate. Many people think they know, but aren't quite on and it takes longer to get pregnant if you don't know when. Also, don't make getting pregnant the sole object of making love/having sex. Can problems between husband and wife if it turns into a reason for getting pregnant.

I had fantastic luck with the ovulation predictor tests. Got pregnant with my first son quite easily with the help of those little sticks, and I'm currently preggo with my second son right now, also having used them to concieve him. Just have to know your cycle pretty well. Then just relax and HAVE FUN! The waiting is the hardest part, from when you think you concieved to your expected period. Ugh, that's awful. I wish you the best of luck! ;-)

PS- make sure you are taking Folic acid in addition to the pre-natals. I take the Folic in the AM, and the pre-natals at night, to ensure a steady amount in my system. ;-)

N.,

I don't know if you know this, but the first 3 months after you stop taking birth control you are at your most fertile. I got pregnant with both my kids in that three month period. :D

Good luck on starting your family, and also on your triathlon.

Hope this helps,
Melissa

I read below that someone advised you are most fertile the first three mos. after getting off the pill. I don't think that's true. Many women take quite a while just to get regular cycles. In fact, I've heard it may be wise to get off of the pill three months prior to trying to conceive. Also, some women's cycles get messed up with excessive exercise, so be careful with that. You may want to consult your doctor to find out fact vs. fiction.

I was 32 when I had my first (and only) daughter and I ended up having to use clomid and ovulation test sticks (they're a great deal on amazon).

Also, I would encourage you to do all the "fun" things you want to do now.. go on vacations etc. :) it's much more difficult with a child.

Good luck!
