Premature Menopause

Hey Ladies,

I was wondering if any of you have experienced premature menopause. I fear that I may be going through it.

I know how nuts it sounds for a 27 year old to say that but I have legitimate reasons. First off, my grandmother experienced menopause at the age of 32. She doesn't speak a lick of english so I can't exactly ask her. The only bit of info I got was that she suddenly experienced hearing loss in one ear. I don't know what that has to do with it but that's what she told me.

I have been having night sweats, hot flashes, memory loss, weight gain, irregular periods (some late some almost a whole week early) my last period was three days early and only lasted 2 and a half days and was pretty light, another period was late but was very heavy, usually they are lighter than normal. I have been overly emotional, have had mood swings, bouts of depression, the texture of my hair is changing, trouble sleeping, vaginal dryness, dry mouth, frequent feeling of bladder infection, and I have sprouted more facial hair that I ever thought possible. I am Italian so I have always had to wax but this new stuff is tuff to get off even with wax! I always have to go back with tweezers.

I also misscarried back in June and have not been able to get pregnant again. I have been off the pill for over a year now and was never irregular prior to taking the pill. In fact I was more irregular while on the pill (I would skip almost every other period).

I recently was checked for thyroid, and blood sugar both of which were normal. Only thing wrong was a touch of high cholesterol which I am working on.

I have been experiencing these symptoms for quite some time now and kept thinking I was just pregnant...not the case. I am not pregnant.

I can't help but wonder if this could be premature menopause and if this is maybe the reason for my misscarriage. Could my eggs bee too old already?

My ob/gyn says to give it two more months and then she will check my hormone levels but I am going CRAZY!

Please help me so I can just move on to the next step. If it is menopause I am okay with it. God has blessed me with two wonderful daughters and I just want to stop going nuts over here!

EDIT: forgot to mention that the first two months after losing the baby, my periods were regular and I felt fine. Also, all blood work came back normal reguarding cancer.

What can I do next?

Get a second opinion and maybe a third. I wouldn't wait two more months to have some blood drawn. I'd also be reading anything I could get my hands on about early menopause.
Best of luck to you!

We are so intricately made. Try to relax and also get some regular exercise - a good walk with your husband or your daughters or a friend. Give your body some time since you just miscarried. Take an art class. I say that because I found out that was a major way to enjoy and relax (I had failed an online math class, did well on the regular work but the tests...). I still enjoy looking at my skyline of Manhattan (including the Twin Towers), my Statue of Liberty (clay), my Brooklyn Bridge (wire), and my Empire State Building (plaster of paris). Good out of bad.

it doesn't sound like menapause to me sometimes after a miscarriage you can have some of those similar symptoms after. just like a pregnancy your body needs to reheal and grasp itself. so you need to wait and follow your dr. if you dont trust them than get a second opinion. My first thought when reading your request was not menapause but pregnant or recovering from a pregnancy. I would relax and quit worring and let things go the way they will. but get your mind off of menapause i highly doubt its that.

Yes it does sound like all of the symptoms of menopause.

Here's what I know. Getting the body in balance helps with many issues. What is your diet like? Are you getting in fresh veggies/fruits? What about dairy products? Are you drinking organic milk, rice milk, basically milk without artificial hormones, which can hurt your the natural estrogen in your body.

I could go on, but if you want to talk about this privately and more in depth you can either call me, or email me privately with your telephone number and let me know a good day/time to reach you.

Together we can work together to get your body in balance.

I have a few suggestions for you. I was told by several doctors that I was going through early menopause and none of them really did much checking. It is just a whole lot easier for them to say it was menopause. I went to a doctor who specializes in bio-identical hormones and he did an entire blood screen and found out that I had almost no progesterone in my whole body. I was having many of the same symptoms that you describe. I would also look into a yoga class and learn how to relax and stretch your body. Relaxing and letting the stress out is great for your body.

HI M.---I would definitely have this checked out by a healthcare professional who specializes is bioidentical hormones. I too, believe that you are probably out of whack post pregnancy, but, those hormones, they really know how to mess us up.

A couple of thoughts. First, let me know if you'd like names of physicians who practice integrative health. I HIGHLY recommend this for hormones. The blood tests in traditional medical offices will not tell the true story. You must have saliva tests, and traditional docs just don't know of or put any credence into them.

Secondly, you MUST practice optimal diet and lifestyle habits to help your body as much as possible. This includes adequate sleep, drinking lots of purified water, EXERCISE, and of course, your diet. Diet should consist primarily of fresh fruits and veggies, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. Minimize animal protein and I would definitely say avoid all dairy, even organic. Please go to www.strongbones.org to learn more.

By eating this way, you will be consuming more fiber. Aim for 50 grams per day. I would start out slowly to allow your body to adjust to more fiber. It is alot of fiber, but this much fiber will do several things for your OVERALL health. Fiber, soluble and insoluble, will soak up excess cholesterol and, more importantly for you, excess estrogens that are circulating in the bloodstream. If not carried out of the intestinal tract, it is reabsorbed. Too much estrogen increases your risk of all hormone based cancers. The fiber will help with blood sugar problems as well, slowing the rate at which the sugars enter the blood stream.

I am happy to help you learn more about these suggestions so feel free to give me a call. I have been studying wellness for several years, taking a series of classes taught by a naturopath who has her PhD in nutrition. Give me a call....and GOOD LUCK! In health, D. ###-###-####

Hi M., What you're describing sounds exactly like PCOS -polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Do a google search for PCOS and you'll find a ton of informaiton. If you don't want to wait the 2 months like your OB/GYN wanted, call and let them know. Have them look for Insulin Resistance, not just diabetes. Research it and bring your questions to your doctor. Please report back and let us know how it turns out. If you have any further questions, please feel free to email me. S.
