Hello Mama's,
I purchased a pre-lit Christmas tree about 3 year's ago and am looking to buy a bigger one. Some of my friend's are suggesting I purchase another pre-lit one and some are saying to get a regular one that I would put the lights on. The tree I have now is 6 feet and the lights still work on it, not one burnt out! But im confused!!! I want to get a 7-8 foot tree that's a bit more fuller only because we have way to many ornament's and would like to make good use out of them by putting them on our tree. I have recently started celebrating Christmas, which would be 3 years ago.My children LOVE all the decor and lights. If any of you wonderful mama's have any recommendation's I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you in advance!

What can I do next?

I prefer prelit and would recommend using the tree you already have for this year and then going a getting a new pre lit on sale the day after christmas. I got a 7 1/2 ft pre lit white lights for $25 from Wal-Mart. I can't wait to put it up this year. I will have 3 trees to decorate and have fun with.

Hi N.!
Honestly the time to buy a christmas tree is AFTER Christmas! They put them on sale usually half price. Especially if you want a really big full pre-lit tree. For $40 or $50 bucks you could get a 8ft tree.
I converted to the fake trees about 5 yrs ago. I appreciate the ease of setting it up. The freedom of not fighting with a strand of lights! Girl it's worth it's weight in gold!
Hobby Lobby and Walmart have the best prices and the best after Christmas sales.
Good Luck and GOD BLESS!

We did a prelit tree since the whole point was to make the process easier. Of course, you can also do what my mother does. She strings extra lights on hers and when that woman gets done, she'd make Griswald proud.

I LOVE my pre-lit tree.

This will be our 5th year with it and it still looks great, no lights have burned out at all, nice full tree. I paid around $400

I was raised in the floral industry and one thing I do is to let the tree sit a couple of days with no ornaments so it will "fill out" and shape the branches.

I have way too many ornaments. I have a box of ornaments that are my daughter's so when she moves out someday, she will already have a wonderful collection.

Enjoy decorating!

Please buy pre-lit because I'm jealous anw will think of you this Christmas
as I try & try as I may to attach those darn string of lights on our fake
tree.
Ugh.
Pre-lit would make it so easy
Plus I think they are more evenly distributed. Do it! :)

We've had our pre-lit tree (6 1/2 ft) - This will be our 9th Christmas with that tree. Some of the lights went out 2 Christmases ago and last year we lost a few more. But until then, it worked great. I would definitely buy a pre lit one again. Ours was the Martha Stewart brand from Kmart.

Good luck.

I decorate homes for the holidays and all of our clients that have artificial trees have pre lit trees. You will get more coverage with the lights. It is worth it..

I charge $100. per foot to light a tree. It takes hours to properly light the tree and then at the end of the Holiday to take them off and re wind them. I am not looking forward to the 12 foot tree I will be lighting this year.. It will probably take me 6 to 8 hours to light it even with an assistant. It will take 4800 lights to light it. that is 48 strands of lights..

I have had both types of trees. About 5 years ago we purchased a beautiful, full 8ft tree from Stein's....I would NEVER go back!! It's absolutely the way to go. We save SO much time not putting the lights on, making sure they are on right, taking them off, not to mention storing them properly. I say go with a nice pre-lit! It allows you more time to celebrate & less time decorating :)

If you're going to buy a fake tree, get a pre-lit one. That's practically the only reason to get a fake tree IMO is to not have to struggle putting the lights on & taking them off!

ETA--my mom has an absolutely gorgeous one she got a few years ago at K-Mart. It's called Boulder Mountain by Martha Stewart (I'm almost positive) & it's big & full & has a ton of white lights.

I have an 8 foot pre-lit and I love it! I love how the lights go all the way into the trunk of the tree. I was never able to get my lights to do that when I put them on myself. I also can't imagine having to put lights on an 8 foot tree.

putting the lights on and off is the least fun part of decorating the tree. Get the pre-lit. Even if they stop working in a few years you can still put light strands on.

What were the reasons your friends suggested not getting a pre-lit tree? These days the majority of pre-lit trees are made so that if one bulb burns out, you can replace that one bulb - it doesn't affect the whole string.

I think even three years ago this wasn't the case - it was sort of an "upgrade."

I have a pre-lit tree. Love it. It's only 4 foot tall though. But in 8 years of having the tree, not one light has burned out. I will always buy a pre-lit one I think b/c it's ONE less thing to do, untangle, and deal with packing/unpacking and hanging.
