Hi E.,
I had this problem when my son was born. I had 3 tears that all reopened within a week and left very painful scar tissue. I had them repaired about 3 months later. My procedure was an outpatient surgery at the hospital that required a general anesthesia. The procedure itself was no big deal and the recovery was similar to the experience after the initial tears, it really only took a few days. Just get a sitz bath, if oyu don't have one from your delivery. After the repairs healed, I felt SUCH a huge difference! The scar tissue was gone completely and I felt relatively normal after that. I'm so glad I opted to have the surgical repair. Good luck to you, hope all goes well!

I had this surgery after my daugther was born. It is actually EASIER to heal from this one than childbirth, it is just a cut there is none of the bruising or trauma from delivery. My doctor told me to use a blowdryer after taking a shower, to put it on the cool setting and blow it on your perineum to help speed healing and ease itching and pain. IT WORKED. I felt better in a week! Trust me, you'll be glad you had the surgery.

Hi E.,
There is a lot they don't mention about childbearing and the results it can have on your internal parts. Make sure you ask your doctor about any incontenence you may be experiencing, and there is such a thing as vaginal hernias or what is called vaginal prolapse. Thats where the muscels that hold up the bladder, or between the floor of your intestines and the vagina, or the muscel between the vagina and rectum are streached or weakened or torn. While you are young these are easier to repair.

Just so you know 50% of all women have some degree of vaginal prolapse by age 40. Ask your doctor about it. That is why they tell you not to do any heavy lifting, anything over 10 pounds, and why you shouldn't be pushing pulling or squating down for several months after giving birth, and no situps either at all! Walk a lot for exercise in the meantime. And no straining when you go to the bathroom, eat high firber, like oatmeal or bran cereal every day to keep from straining in the bathroom.

I suggest you make a list of questions for your doctor when you go for your next appointment, and give it to him and make him answer ALL your questions.
