Possible Celiacs or Lactose Intolerance

So we finally had a doctors appt to see what why my son (2 years old) keeps throwing up in the night. Dr thinks it's either Celiacs disease or a lactation intolerance. I'm kind of freaking out (in my head) about it. I know there are a lot of substitutes for things, but I like what I like and have tried these alternatives. Not a fan. I of course will go on the diet with my son to make things easier and fair. I just know I'll be miserable not eating my cheese or Alfredo sauce. Ugh don't get me started on pasta :D

He just had his blood drawn to find out if it's Celiacs, but we have to go dairy free for the next two weeks. What other things than the obvious has whey, lactose, milk, ect in it? I know to read the label, but sometime there isn't a label available (restaurants ect.)
What are lactose free recipes are there? What about milk substitutes? TIA

So What Happened?

While we are testing out the theory of lactose intolerance, he says to cut every milk related product out. Does hard cheese have whey? So i guess we are looking more for a dairy/lactose/whey/ect intolerance not just lactose.

What about using rice instead of pasta? or cauliflower instead of pasta? Both are good substitutes.

There are several restaurants now like Outback and Cheeseburger in Paradise that offer gluten-free menus. My neighbor has Celiacs and his son has a dairy allergy.

Go and visit a health food store. you will discover that there are a lot of good options for celiac/lactose free food. Even gluten free pastas, bread and pancake mixes... Also, many health food stores will have guide books letting you know all of this additional info. I have a few friends who have celiacs and they have been able to eat at restaurants with us, they just have to be extra aware of what they are ordering and they usually have to ask for substitutes.

Hi there... My daughter drinks a protein shake in the morning made by Visalus. It does have two forms of whey in it, but the lactose (which is what the intolerance is most likely of) has been taken out. There is very little sugar and carbs... yet it packs a whooping 30% of daily nutrition. AND! it tastes great!

I think you need to check with your doctor to make sure you know what you're dealing with. I have lactose intolerance, but that does not mean I can not have dairy, or products made with milk. Many hard cheeses do not contain lactose.

For Celiacs you need to avoid glutten. There are tons of glutten free products available, including pasta. Also, many restaurants offer glutten free options.

For a milk substitute you can try soy joy.
