MY sweet little princess is 4.5 months old and she is REFUSING to eat! She only ate 10 ozs of formula yesterday, her last bottle at 8p.m. and by 10 am today I was on the phone with the doc b/c she had not wanted anything! He looked at her and said that everything looks perfectly fine and suggested giving her a little juice to see if it was just the taste of the formula that she didn't like and she wouldn't take taht either! I have gotten her to take about 4 oz today but that is it! Does anyone have any advice whatsoever for me...I am losing my mind!

What can I do next?

It could be teething. Try freezing a wet washcloth and then giving it to her. This will help if it is teething and will also get some liquid in her. Good Luck.

my son, now 12 months, had a bit of a similar problem. He turned out to be teething. The suction of drinking from a bottle or breast can hurt their inflamed gums and so they may refuse a feeding or two for a little bit. How does your dr. feel about tylenol? My doc reccommended that when the teeth were about the cut (and the symptoms were most severe....it sounds like your at that point) that infant tylenol could ease the pain and perhaps with less pain, feeding would resume. But before tylenol or any other medication, I would check with the doc.

Did the doc check her ears? Ear infections cause swallowing to be painful. Either way I bet within a couple of days she will be fine. Just make sure she continues to pee/poo, her eyes and lips seem moist and her soft spot is not sunken in. Best wishes.

Sometimes they do that when they are getting sick or teething or just before they start a growth spirt. If it is a growth spirt she will begin getting hungry and take more than before! Give her water for a while, and just make sure she is having enough wet diapers. Pedialite should relieve any fears about dehydration. She'll be fine, you are doing a great job already and are watching all her moves! :o)

If the pediatrician says she's fine but you're still worried, give it another day or so and observe her. Have you noticed any other changes other than not eating? Teething? Ear infection? Fussiness?

I think a lot of times we forget that our babies are mini versions of us. Sometimes there are days where I'm just not hungry at all, for apparently no good reason. I'm sure her appetite will be back soon, but if it continues check with your pediatrician.

She may just not be hungry... but I would be flipping out too. I too recommend giving her some teething rings/wet washcloth. Is she acting the same? She might be coming down with an illness. Is she still having #1/#2 diapers? If not and if she still isn't eating, I would maybe call towards the end of the day today and ask for the doctor to check her out to be on safe side...good luck!

She might be getting some teeth. My little guy did the same thing at right around that age and sprouted 2 teeth that week. If you really want to get some liquid into her to ease your mind, try feeding her formula with a deep spoon. It might not be as painful on the gums.
You could also try to give her some pain reliever a half hour or so before she needs a bottle to ease any gum pain she is feeling while she sucks.
I hope it gets better and if you have any major M. instincts that tell you something ain't right- don't hesitate to take her to the doc. That is why they are there. And M. is usually ALWAYS right! :)
