Pediatricians and Fevers in Sandwich

New this year is a week to ten day high fever in my home. Both kids never spiked fevers as babies and now this is it. They get a "virus" as I am told, and it lasts at least a week. My pediatrician is pretty conservative and says Tylenol and Benedryl, but I am becoming increasingly frustrated with how long my sweeties are sick for. I don't want it to be anything serious of course, but I feel like these "viruses" are in a never-ending cycle. No sooner does my daughter get better then my son gets hit and vice versa. Any suggestions, similar stories, or reccomendations for doctors in the upper/mid Cape area?

What can I do next?

I live in Plymouth and my son just got over a "virus"too!!He had high fevers for about 5 days, took him to pedi and they said it was a virus and theres nothing they can do,call if he gets worse. Now,I know that "hand foot and mouth" virus consists of high fevers, rash, sores, cold symptoms but he only had the fevers at the time i took him to the doc. Then his fevers stopped, he got a rash and was soooo miserable,im not sure if thats what he had but it is going around like CRAZY.I would check in their mouths for sores(check way back in their throats too, although they are old enough to tell you if they have them, the rash is usually on belly and back..I hope they dont get it but its highly contagious,so maybe its just a touch of it and they keep passing it back and forth??Have them wash their hand alot and get them new toothbrushes ect....I went crazy and cleaned everything,Im not even sure if thats what my son had (he never got the sores)but keep up the motrin/tylenol and hopefully it will leave your home soon!!!Good luck

A fever is really the body's way of trying to release toxins that have accumulated in the body. It is perfectly normal. The best thing you can do to bring the fever down and get your kids healthy faster is to help them detoxify their body.
Give them plenty of plain water. You can add lemon or lime if you want or even a pinch of baking soda (electrolyte replacement) Bakind soda replaces an important mineral in the body (sodium bicarbonate) that helps to fend off viruses and bacteria. You can also cut out dairy and all forms of sugar including fruit and grains. Make them yummy salads, lightly steamed veggies and raw veggie soups using veggie broth as a base. Jicama is a great veggie that tastes a lot like apple. Celery with almond butter is a good choice as well. The best thing you can give them though is a soup that is not overcooked. (should not reach boiling and should not be too soft) Give them an epsom salt bath and encourage them to move their bodies to help clear out the lymphatic system.

Good luck!

We live in Falmouth. Two of my three kids have had fever and cough lasting 3 - 4 days. I expect my third will come down with the illness today :(
Hope your family starts to feel better soon. I know how challenging it can be when illness keeps cycling around the family. I have three children only 20 months apart.

Is it a virus or could it be a food allergy/intolerance? May I ask what office you go to? I too live in Sandwich and go to a Pedi in Forestdale. They always told me "its winter illnesses" when in fact it was a milk allergy. Took a while but eventually solved it.
